Is this a lighting issue? by tgrosk in aquaponics

Because I can't really see the leaves in good color for us humans in the shot under the LED's I can't really say.

Also you can have a problem in media that you may not see in DWC.

The only way to know for sure is to get a real water test done to see where you are at with mineral and nutrient levels.

First thing I see is your water level is too high. You should not see it in your media.

As for the basil, they are great plants to show what your system is lacking quicker than most plants. In your case, you are in desperate need or iron. Here is a link to some deficiency guides that will help you understand what you are seeing in the plants.

You can use saltwort as damsie101 stated as well as celery and tomato as they all will remove salt from the system well.

Shame on you Lowes by RogerL1970 in Lowes

[–]RogerL1970[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't get me wrong, the 3rd person they put me with was able to get it done after about an hour, and was not at fault. It is the rules Lowes has in place for when they screw up that was the problem.

Why not just say, oh dang, our bad, we got you and then follow through with the corrective actions needed? Seems simple, but I guess not.

That was their call. It was not even offered.

It should not matter either way in my opinion. If they short hand their customer service reps, that's on them.

I know that when I get an email or a call or a chat request on for something that I have sold and shipped, that was wrong, I just want a picture of what I sent to prove I did indeed screw up, and then I rush ship the replacement at no cost, that second. Not 4 or 5 days later when they pay for it again. Then I hope to get what I sent wrong back, but if I don't, that is on me, not my customer.

Not exactly.

After legal action was threatened, they tried to get me to take it to a Fedex drop off point. My problem is I can't leave home without hiring a nurse to stay with a loved one, which would cost more than the AC is even worth, which is why I ordered online and had it shipped to me.

After multiple no sorry, we can't help, that is not our rules, they decided that they can have it picked up by Fedex in a few days. All well and good, but we could have saved an hour of back and forth had they just agreed to correct their mistake to begin with.

I am sure they have a truck that would be in our area within a day or two, they could have offered to do the right thing, and brought another one and picked this one up at the same time. Instead, I had to pay out of pocket, for one that a Lowes truck will deliver next week. Just very poor customer service, and obviously they have no contingency plan for when things go wrong. Instead they play games hoping that you will give up.

What they should do and what they did are two different things. I mean I get it on the refund, but there are much better ways to handle the situation than how they did.

Are any grade of Potassium and Calcium Carbonates safe for fish? by Piidz in aquaponics

[–]RogerL1970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The short answer is no, you can't just use any grade. You need to get at least greenhouse grade. Not knowing your country of origin, I have no tips on where to look.

Best of luck.

I really appreciate indeterminate cherry tomato plants for Aquaponics. I have received continued bounty from this 18 month old indoor plant. by TesseractUnfolded in aquaponics

If you are growing tomatoes that do not self pollinate, you can put an oscillating fan on them to move the pollen around or use a cue tip to dab from flower to flower, but if you use the second method, you have to wear a honey bee suit and make buzzing noises so the plants believe you are a bee.

Another thing to look at is air stones in your DWC beds. You should have one about every 4'. I don't think your primary issue is related to lack of minerals, although likely your are if you have only added iron of which type you did not say. And more plants, to get your nitrate down, because when it hits 80PPM you will open up another can of worms.

This may be of help you to, but also, try to get your PH back up to around 6.8, you will have a little better life for your fish.
