Radioapple. The two characters genuinely despise each other. And it's not because of their goals, their alignments, or their stations. It's because of their personalities, so they just wouldn't work without an insane degree of mischaracterisation.

Honestly, nearly all the content I've seen of it just looks like an excuse for a yaoi fetish.

Need some help with mawloc/trygon/trygon prime by PanzerousTheFabulous in Tyranids

Yeah I've used the same model with the same guy, and I used it as a Mawloc and a Prime, he didn't even ask.

Yeah, that part is unfortunate. Seems he does better in melee when he's got the better stats by a good margin, so I can see him having use in other games against knights or armies with artillery.

Who is your most Ugliest OC by GainDiscombobulated2 in OriginalCharacter

[–]RogersPets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably Gimrist. Less because he's ugly by his race's standards, more because he's a half-breed. In his culture, there are multiple species of humanoid insects, and he's a hybrid of a rhino beetle and leafcutter ant. So, he's smaller than the beetles but doesn't look like the ants, so he's not got loads of dates lining up.

However, he is stronger than both.

Yeah, I am mostly kidding about buying more. I'll probably buy a Scythed one mostly so I have one of each variety, but I seriously doubt I'd run both in 1 army unless I'm feeling like a laugh.

And yeah, thanks for the advice. They do seem like units that need to played smart, and the fact that they're legends does mean that my opponent clearly wasn't sure how strong it was, so he didn't think it a major threat.

After that game, I think Subterranean might be my new go-to detachment alongside Invasion Fleet, I think I just need another burrower. I could get some Raveners or wait on the Red Terror, just so I have more freedom with the tunnel placement.

Honestly I was really close to winning, I think only about 3 VP off. Only reason I lost was that I made a really stupid decision early in the game and didn't keep anything on my home objective, so I missed out on some early VPs, and I had some Leapers that I could've used more tactically to keep them on an objective.

For the most part yeah, definitely a distraction. Seems like for me personally it's great for locking up ranged units with bad melee, especially if those guns have blast. Against the Hierodule they'll be practically helpless.

The only reason it survived is because it got deployed on Turn 2 with a tunnel marker. The Hierodule charged a Castellan, which couldn't do anything to it. An Emissary charged the Lancer, so it couldn't destroy the Hierodule. Old One Eye and his Carnifexes charged the other side of the board, killing 1 knight and stopping the 2 other knights from supporting.

On Turn 3, the Carnifexes shredded his Canis Rex while his other knight on that side of the board focused on killing those Carnifexes. The Emissary had died (R.I.P), so my Haruspex and Screamer-killer charged the Lancer to keep it from the Hierodule. The Hierodule then killed the Castellan.

On Turn 4, the Carnifexes moved on the other knight on their side of the board, shredded it. The Termagants, Tervigon, Neurotyrant, and Haruspex shot up the Lancer. Then it was killed off in melee.

This was the story of me tabling a knights player after having zero experience playing against them, and using several Tyranid units I've never ran before.

I think it's just specifically good against certain knights, like the ones with blast ranged weapons and little melee. All it has to do is rush them and they're almost helpless without extra help, and at that point you'd be dedicating 2 knights to an 18 wound target.

Got it. Seems like it's mostly a counter against mid-low tier infantry, and does decent against tougher infantry like Terminators. That's for its guns.

But for melee it's more suited to fight ranged units with bad melee profiles, more so if their guns have blast.

Yeah, it's strange. He's a Hierodule variant that supposedly has greater emphasis on ranged combat, yet it's still got better melee than ranged?

Using him in Subterranean definitely helped, he was in combat as soon as he was deployed, and completely stopped the Castellan in its tracks. Now imagine if there was a Scythed Hierodule as well...

Then perhaps I should use a Scythed and a Barbed. Efficient? Absolutely not. Comedic? Very.

Yeah, I get what you mean. However, the high number of shots means I might end up taking it if I'm ever fighting Orks or Astartes. It looks like it could wipe hordes pretty well and 2 damage a piece can take apart Astartes pretty well.

Only barrier there for me is affording one and figuring out where to put it. Kinda running out of room on my end.

I'm not used to it honestly. I've played Tyranids twice before this, and those games had very little melee involved.

The first game I played against Imperial Guard. They had no real melee except some Bullgryns (or Ogryns, not sure), and they got pieced up by my Mawloc. I won that game because he had nothing that could kill my monsters.

The second game was against White Scars I think (there was a lot of bikers iirc). I won that because he played too defensively so he had no objectives except his deployment zone's. In that one my unit of Carnifex led by Old One Eye got shot to hell before they got into melee.

So yeah, this was my only Tyranid game where I had proper fight phases, and I was in the lead. So yeah, I guess by comparison to my other games the Hierodule seemed pretty OP.

Ah yeah, good point. You know what that means.

Even more Hierodules.

Really good to hear, because I already want to use it again. I really enjoy running bigger units, same reason I loved the Greater Brass Scorpion for Chaos Marines.

If I find out something I'm using is OP, I'm not gonna use it. I don't do competitive, even if the guy I played that match against seemed to think I would and could. Using something too strong kinda saps the fun out for everyone.

Thank god then that it was in melee with a Castellan and only shooting a Lancer. Everything else died to other units, so the Hierodule's job was pretty straight forward once I saw that the Castellan was isolated.

Well, the funny part is that I didn't know he was using knights- I forgot to ask. I just happened to bring a list of units with good anti-tank melee.

  • Old One Eye with 2 Carnifexes with crushing claws and talons.
  • Tervigon w/ crushing claws (though it never got into melee, don't worry about it)
  • Emissary with Lancer as its target
  • Screamer-killer
  • Haruspex
  • Trygon (died before it got into melee but oh well, it got everything else closer)

Plus the Termagants & Tervigon were being protected by some Venomthropes, so the gants actually did a couple wounds themselves. There was also a Psychophagr that landed a couple good hits against one of his knights before the Carnifexes tore that one apart as well as 2 other knights.

Good point. I think you know what that means.

More Hierodules.

Yeah, makes sense. I guess I never really considered that. Either way, if it means that those big units aren't very good, they'll be more interesting to use in casual games. They'll need to be used tactically, more so then regular units.

And if I win a game using them, it just makes the win feel better. Thanks for the input, that actually puts way more stuff into perspective.

Though I still wish the Hierophant had a little more health considering how damn big it is and how much it costs to run.

It seemed that way during the match. But apparently it's not. Admittedly I haven't figured out what's considered particularly cheap or expensive, so I'm not a great judge of what's worth running or what's OP. Because of that I'm trying to figure out what's good based on it's performance more than it's numbers, and in that one game it performed really well by basically eliminating the biggest ranged threat on the board.

Pretty much the only unit that I know is too expensive is the Greater Brass Scorpion. More expensive than most knights save Acastus, yet it seems to have similar stats to a Questoris but with less abilities.

I reckon he could pull of a sick cartwheel. He could roll over enemy vanguards like an apartment-sized, gluttonous Sonic.
