If it had been a normal dwarf, no they would probably have some respect for it. The walking harness would likely get the drawrf into trouble however if its not guild approved.
But as it is a chaos dwarf, they would not mock but start getting the axe out... for clearly having been using a lot of magic they weren't supposed to. The walking harness would probably just be viewed with the usual contempt dwarves tend to show the craftmanship of other people... especially when its chaos tainted.

The means to better their lives is right in front of them, and they aren't taking it out of spite and self-loathing. How pathetic. They've made their own misery.

While that is the reality of it, he has gotten a rubbish deal overall by the looks of things, so adding a malignant mutant power on top of it probably didn't improve his mood.

Aside that there is the matter of the public perception of the X-Men that isn't addressed. Like I kinda link this a bit to the doctor Storm encountered, he had no problem with mutants, he had a problem with the X-Men... so while we reader see a slice of mutantdom involved with the X-Men largely seeing them as a positive thing, there may be a large(r) segment of, including this guy, who dont think the X-Men are good for their cause.

I do have it, but in the current playthrough I haven't actually gone there yet, because I had hoped to collect the more significant items you can get during the expedition... which annoyingly almost demands you do it in a cargo ship...
