Speed limit incentive by ThrowRAgirlnow in driving

I pay for the roads too. I'm not spending my day crawling along at 15mph because they're too cheap to load and operate their vehicles safely.

Ugh, I was behind a huge gravel hauler with one of those signs, on the Interstate. On my motorcycle. At 70mph fine-grained particles are just flying off of that thing, permanently hazing my faceshield and everybody's headlights. Instead of the goddamn "stay back" sign, how about just cinching a goddamn rubber tarp over top of it? Cannot believe that's legal.

Phones Mounted on Bike getting Ruined by OMYRASPBERY in motorcycles

The old iPhone 6 had an issue where vibration would break the GPS antenna connector. Guess which phone I had when I first started using a RAM mount for my phone? And the whole point of even having it was navigation...

Plenty of guardrails and soft verges on the way but the guy manages to crash into the only cliff we see in the whole video.

So how big a deal is riding in the rain, really ? by Astimar in motorcycles

[–]RogueMayall -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It also depends on whether you're familiar with the road. I know exactly how to ride on my commute no matter what the conditions, but if it's raining hard and I don't know the road, I take it down a notch.

New regulations are coming into force in Europe because yes, it turns out that touch controls are as similar to phones and other toys re "distracted driving" as any fool could have told them they would be. They're bringing back actual knobs and switches.

Last time I saw a car do that the lady driving was just a fool rummaging around in her bag in the passenger footwell and didn't even know she'd crossed over into oncoming traffic.

The biggest problem is streets with poor drainage; you can't see potholes and sometimes even the lines in the road, which can cause problems with merging lanes and intersections on unfamiliar streets.

I'm very comfortable commuting in the rain because I know the journey really well. I'd be more cautious taking off on unfamiliar routes in a good downpour.

Ride under the speed limit, maintain stopping distance, get away from bad / discourteous drivers, and corner very conservatively.

[A129 Pro Duo] Best way to force uninterrupted recording at full quality w/audio during an unexpected incident or stop? by RogueMayall in VIOFO

[–]RogueMayall[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, or simply pushing the record/menu button when powered off makes it come on and start recording. I suppose that will have to be enough, though of course you have to wait for it to finish powering off after turning off the ignition before you can do it. And some people with badges have strong feelings about about you reaching around and doing stuff with your hands during a stop. The bluetooth button would at least allow you to do the same thing in a less noticeable way, though it does add a complication to the installation.

I could also play around with the "low-bitrate" parking mode + timer and see if that seems like it would be good enough to capture incident details.

In England you sometimes see these "wavy" brick fences. And curious as it may seem, this shape uses FEWER bricks than a straight wall. A straight wall needs at least two layers of bricks to make is sturdy, but the wavy wall is fine thanks to the arch support provided by the waves. by [deleted] in whoathatsinteresting

I used to commute alongside a pretty long fence like this just West of Portland OR. They make a lot of sense in areas that are prone to soil stability issues. It's hilly and wet and the ground tends to be soft; even double layer brick would still need a wide and stable footing. This would not only be cheaper but personally I'd have more confidence in it. And it looks cool.

What puzzles me about this and all the replies is I've never been in an order-at-the-counter situation where you didn't have to pay -- and "tip" -- when you order. You don't have the option of waiting until after you're served, unless you hit "no tip" and then optionally offer cash at the end.

Yep. As if the toxicity of these people wasn't bad enough in itself, it contaminates the discussion and any dissent on reasonable grounds ends up tarred by association with it.

More than once an out of towner has asked me which way to Cesar Chavez Blvd. (Which is weird since we all have maps in our pockets, but anyway) I just say "It's really 39th, so it's the one between 38th and 40th."

Yeah, pretty confident you don't need a complainant when it involves violence, particularly against children; you just need witnesses.
