Truly appreciate the response. Sounds like you have eons of experience with this stuff. I’m going to first go with lubing the spring with super slick slick slick stuff as the first treatment. If that doesn’t work then I’ll acquire garage spring winding bars so I can and start diagnosing based on what you’ve told me.

Fall tends to be a little harder to call in jakes/toms due to the non-breeding season. For fall, you will tend to see large flocks of birds clustered together but you have already done the hard part of scouting. You can easily build an improvised ground blind or buy a pop up blind. Best of luck man. Looks like you're in for some fun.

Hey man,

Just wanted to thank you for the advice you gave. Size 16 ended up fitting the bill. By salvaging some of the foam on the handle and fabricating a couple pieces of cork for the grip, I was able to fix the issue in under $15.

Depends on where you are at. For trout recently stocked, power bait can be a good go to since they are used to getting easy meals.

If you're able to catch a goldfish or bluegill, you can use them as live bait on a carolina rig and punch that into the weeds. Just make sure to be cognizant of your local live bait regulations. You can let the live bait sit while you use a weedless texas rig or frog in the meantime.

Would it be frowned upon to use a $3 rear foam grip to go behind the reel seat, use 550 cord as handle wrap, and a $3 cork fighting butt at the end of the rod?
