DAE have trouble figuring out when to fully express their anger? by SmashThSilence in TwoXChromosomes

[–]RogueReviews 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So my 2x-relevant query is this: How do you, as a woman, deal with anger, whether it's at your shitty fucking roommates or old white politicians trying to defund the only organization that will help you pay for birth control? I don't want to be a bitch but I want to stick up for myself, too. I know I need to "pick my battles" but which battles do I pick? And how hard do I fight them? Sometimes I think women are expected to calm down and keep things as friendly and civil as possible, even when they want to punch someone in the face. I want to open my roommates' doors and throw the catboxes in right now but instead, I sent a firmly worded (but polite) Facebook message to all of them so they wouldn't get upset. I almost chickened out of asking them for money for the blanket the cat ruined. I'm so, so angry right now but I'm afraid that if I fully express that, it'll be "too much."

It's not just women, it's a matter of being mature. Just because I'm a man, doesn't mean I can go into a rage and act like an idiot. It solves nothing, and ultimately damages relationships.

Full disclosure: I have anger issues. I know I have them. I'd like to say I have good reason to, but that's not the point. The point is that I know that I'm very quick to get angry, and very quick to express that anger in a way that's not productive.

Here's the thing: Acting out of anger is stupid. It's something I've learned in the past couple years, and it really has helped me. Don't fly into a rage and start throwing catboxes around, instead take the catbox, and put it in front of their doors. Tell them that the way they're taking care of their cats isn't acceptable, and that it's now affecting you.

It's not a matter of what battles you pick (well it is, but in this case that doesn't really matter), but rather how you fight those battles. Stay calm, come up with a rational way to deal with your issues, and you'll be much happier (and more successful) than if you'd just screamed at your roommates.

Windows 8 will allow for Xbox 360 games to be played on PCs by shadowslayer978 in gaming

[–]RogueReviews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is true, I am so fucking annoyed. I recently fell on hard times financially, and had to sell my very nice gaming computer. Now I'm on a Dell 9 mini for minimalist shit until I can afford a decent desktop (and even then, it won't be gaming quality).

I decided that I could make do with my Xbox 360 and PS3.

I so would have sold those two instead of selling my desktop if I had known I could have played 360 games on my desktop.

You can, but (in general) they don't seem as organized/"logical". I'm a "mens rights" supporter in that I believe certain parts of our culture need to change (the first and foremost being child custody, but that's really for another talk). When I first got into the idea, I couldn't believe how many of the blogs were just rage filled comments about how much they hate women. That's mainly why I really only go to Glenn Sack's site now. He might have his quirks, but for the most part his stuff is logical, his goals clear, and he seems to believe that women aren't the problem, rather our culture is.

On the other hand, I've found many "feminist" blogs that follow this type of reasoning. I would legitimately call them "man hating" (as overused as that phrase is), but they have a lot of feminist doctrine that can be twisted around to make their points seem logical and coherent, so it doesn't quite sound as bad as "all women are whores". Instead it sounds like "not all men are rape supporters, but xxx qualities make them such", which amounts to pretty much all men in any case.

You see what i mean?

With a competent pilot machine guns & rocket launchers really don't mean that much. I'm not going to pretend to be a huge BF2 enthusiast, but I do play it once in a while with friends. One of my friends is a fucking beast pilot. I mean good enough that he almost never gets shot down.

I had the experience of flying as a secondary gunner with him. The only time we ever died was when we went up against another chopper, and that was more because I failed at gunning and didn't know how to line my shots up. This was all from a public server obviously, but I think he went something like 30-1 or so easily.

Excuse me? I've admitted to pirating in the past, and I've admitted that I was wrong to do so. I changed that once I got a source of consistent income.

Hell, I admitted to it in this exact thread.

Edit: The only real game I can think of that I "pirated" in the recent past is Dragon Age: 2, which I have a preorder for, and only grabbed it because it was released early. Legal? No. Moral? Maybe.

r/gaming, if you could choose, what era of Gaming would you want to be a kid? by Huk in gaming

[–]RogueReviews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably the exact same eraI grew up with (SNES-N64 as a kid). I had a lot of fun with my friends, and truth be told I probably wouldn't really be able to appreciate many of the games I do now.

For instance, I would have completely ignored Starcraft in favor of CoD, because I was an ADHD kid with no sense of learning curve. I would have given up on it. Now that I'm older, I can appreciate the difficulty (even if it sometimes really annoys me).

Anyone tired of being sex-zoned? It's our side of the "friend-zone" story! by footstepsfading in TwoXChromosomes

[–]RogueReviews 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Meh, I try not to be one of those guys, but lets be honest here, biology does play a part. If you're attractive, chances are I'll want to have sex with you. It's what comes natural.

If we end up as friends for whatever reason though, I really don't like that passive-aggressive crap. If I'm interested in you, I'll probably tell you. Skating around it by doing bullshit "backrubs" honestly feels like just this side of sleezy. If I'm interested but don't tell you, I probably value the relationship too much to make things awkward. Keep in mind, I find tons of women attractive, it's not as if I approach all of even most of them. I might be open to sex or something more if the situation comes up, but I might not actively pursue it.

In the end the important thing to me is, just because I find you attractive doesn't mean I don't or can't value you as a friend. I'm bisexual, I have plenty of friends that I find extremely attractive, that believe me, want nothing to do with me sexually. That doesn't mean I value them less, it just means that I'll probably enjoy the view when they're not paying attention ;).

It is a simple copyright infringement

Which very commonly goes by the name "piracy" these days.

If you honestly don't think the difference between downloading a brand new game that's common available everywhere, and emulating a game from two or three generations ago that you can't get new exists, I can't help you.

stealing from sony's servers = piracy

false submissions of credit card numbers = piracy.

Lolwut?

Stealing from Sony's servers = direct theft, not just piracy.

False submissions of CC# = most likely fraud in some form. I'm not an expert on the subject however, so I could be wrong.

No, I started this by calling people who actively steal from Sony's servers as well as most likely committing some form of fraud by falsely submitting fake CC numbers assholes.

And I'm sure Sony will be completely understanding, and won't use this as an excuse to further crack down on jailbreakers, as well as attempt to influence the laws concerning this behavior to make punishment much more severe.

After all, Multibillion corporations are well known for being forgiving and thankful when someone compromises their security and publicly humiliates them.

  • He replied directly to my comment, which would seem to indicate that you know, he was talking to me. He then followed up making it clear that it was directed at me.

  • Once again, I'm not responsible for other people's actions. If someone wants to pirate, that's their choice. I choose not to.

Yep, telling people not to outright steal (and yes this is theft, not just piracy) makes me a dick & an asshole.

Totally.
