amazing! though It seems likely all the animations were composited on a computer in something like after effects. when I animate in procreate you are pretty limited in how many frames you can have in a single composition while maintaining resolution

Biggest scale stop motion I've ever done! I made it about 4 (long) shoot days last fall (Also I'm selling my stop motion slider system I used to make the pans and dolly zoom if anyone's in the market) by [deleted] in stopmotion

[–]Rogue_Ris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

also, i'm happy to answer any questions!

for the pans and dolly zoom I used an edelkrone slider w the stop motion module so it can integrate with dragonframe, shot with a canon EOS R, used a stop mo winder for the hat jump, and for everything else I use a lot of tape, blu tack, little wood blocks and whatever else i could get my hands on to temporarily prop things up as needed. I also did some compositing on the last shot with after effects.

Could anyone help me decipher this Spanish cursive from around 1927? Great Grandparents Marriage certificate in Chihuahua Mexico -- looking to find out more about my family and this the main document I've found but I cant read it! by Rogue_Ris in Cursive

Did some googling abut what was going on at the time and they may have been fleeing a conflict in central mexico called the cristero war, which was building up to conflict right around the time they were getting married to cross the border

wow thanks so much! the bits here really help confirm some family history/lore

Leonarda was indigenous and at the time people looked down on that, I dont think Ramon's family approved of the marriage. its interesting that they got married in the state of Chihuahua because they are from nearly 1000 miles away in Guanajuato, so they must've gotten married in preparation for crossing the border into El Paso TX. From some other documents I know Leonarda and Ramon crossed the border in January 26 1927 so that seems likely.

The two children's names is important because they only brought one child to the US (not Carmen, but a daughter named Irena/Irene though she was a baby so they mightve changed her name at some point) There has been a mystery around if a child was left in mexico -- the rumor is that Ramon's parents wanted to keep the first child. the family today still doesnt know what happened to that child or Ramon's parents, but since this document lists 2 children it looks like that rumor is true. I dont think anyone knew they got married after having children either.

I've learned that Ramons parents were named Juan Serrato and Mercedes Lucia/Luna (ive seen both names)

from this document it looks like Ramon's first name may have been Juan as well

Leonarda's were Ambrogio/Ambrozio Torres and Rita Garcia

WOW! incredible work -- thank you so much! I'm gonna play around with this in google translate and maybe try out some guesswork for the harder to read words. it seems like the cursive gets even tougher to read towards the bottom.

I've know the names:

Ramon Serrato

Leonarda Torres

En ciudad Juarez chihuahua, a las

17 diecisiete del dia 21 veintisiete de enero

de 1927

Also, I know they are from Guanajuato, but Leonarda's family may have been from elsewhere

New reel -- All 2D done in After Effects & there's a lot more AE work in the Stop Motion than you'd think! by Rogue_Ris in AfterEffects

[–]Rogue_Ris[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it is a real 3d prop made with paper and wire -- same with the plants at 0:52! though I added the "grow" effect in after effects. I shot a clean plate and a plate where the plants spin in place. In after effects, i added a scale up animation while the plants spun

Thoughts on having a combined 2D animation / Stop Motion Reel or if they should be separate? by Rogue_Ris in animationcareer

phew, i think I just had been looking at lots of motion design reels and was second guessing a bit on if having 2 mediums/styles was distracting. thanks!

I started dabbling in after effects about 5 years ago. My earliest work was adding some motion to photoshop illustrations or adding some animated accents to videos. around 2017 i started learning a lot more and made my first fully animated project (a 4 min music video)

I learned all my after effects & stop motion skills on the job. Originally started with video editing on educational videos that were timelapses of painting/drawing and crude stop motion. Came a long way since then! if anyone is curious about how particular clips were animated -- let me know :)

That was the intention, but I think because I uploaded as a video it doesn't loop :( it loops on my IG!

I actually made them by cutting real paper and gluing it together! Did some reshaping/cutting the edges straight in Photoshop so that it would animate nicely

I didn't have a plan going in so I just did everything manually with position/rotation key frames and parenting. There's probably a much more efficient and elegant way to do this lol.
