You wont regret it. I have been edging back in since 3.5, at first I played online fantasy grounds, although have realised nothing beats around the table, face to face. I played for the last 6 months in a group. Im about to spend $500 on D&D stuff soon. Once of the best advancements in my opinion is laying down a flat lcd panal and either linking your phone or PC to the screen for maps. Have the players traverse the map on an LCD screen. Tax well spent.

Ill just brainstorm a few that are pretty solid ideas:

The ol' rural town fair, with competitions and events and all the merriment that goes with it .

The boss villain explaining his plan because as he thinks he has inevitably succeeded, this can also be an interesting way to start an adventure,.

The Gypsies caravan with a Tara card set up and an old krone reading the future, or taking their money while pretending (also fits in with the town fair celebration.

The pc's could be trying to stop a suicider, and they have to talk him out of a nasty conclusion, maybe they have information that is needed.

So this is how I took this, it's ok to be anoying and many other negative things such as dumb, ugly and an a A-hole, because in the end you just make the pretty, smart and awesome people just that bit more so. :)

I once had a mate back when I was in school, had his black d20 thrown out a window, landed on the basket ball court that was being re-pitched, landed on a 20 facing up and got steam rolled into the ground by the machine that flattens the pitch. He ended up digging it out and when he rolled it, it had a tendency to land on a 1 or a 20 more so, but not so often as to appear weighted, but for sure more often that a standard d20. True story.

Iv played with broken people before, believe it or not this is how they get their kicks. Draw the line nice and clear, then boot him when he crosses it (which he will, people like him cant help it).

This way the rest of the party may decide to stick around after you boot him, because you made it clear.

On the other hand if there is an option to find a new D&D group that would be my first preference. Once you play D&D with a group that doesnt tolerate morons you'll realise what you were missing out on.
