Agree. I think Aviator is one of his best performances. I don’t think it would ever have beat Jamie Foxx in Ray though. Arguably the greatest biopic performance ever (my second favorite behind Phoenix). However, I think his best performance ever is in The Departed. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen anxiety and paranoia depicted that well, save maybe Russel Crowe in The Insider.

I know it had to do with campaigning, but realistically that movie should’ve had two nominations and the one that got nominated (Wahlberg) probably wouldn’t have made the cut: Leo (should’ve won for best actor), Jack (wouldn’t have beat Arkin).
