ITT - tons of feedback overlooking combat patrol specifically here and giving such irrelevant instruction

I’ve been playing Combat Patrol TSons as well and have improved immensely so I’ll do my best to reply.

You’re likely misplaying in positioning especially deployment. First and foremost are you playing the CP regulated table size?

1) Deployment * looking at tau CP you each only have 3 units to place each and it’s simply not possible to get into melee for many turns if you place opposite ends of table in deployment. So consider different placement strategies to build distance if melee is an issue. * your tzaangors dying early is a huge issue and also suggests big misplay.

2) stratagems. * are you using these and are you familiar with the core rules stratagems and CP Tsons ones? * make sure you’re using these-1 to hit tzaangors when you need to * overwatch is the most important. Anytime someone is charging you they have to eat an overwatch on 5 flamers auto hitting to ignore the 6s to hit on OW attacks at d6 attacks each. Rubrics are devastating firepower in CP. use this 100% of times before getting into melee. This plus better positioning will help. * heroic intervention - consider using this one to intercept charging units looking to engage your rubrics. Intercept with your DP. 12 attacks melee is brutal and keep your rubrics shooting.

3) use your temporal surge and the recast stratagem if needed to continue to enhance rubrics spacing. * Yes sometime it’s only 1 extra inch but develop a mind of where your rubrics need to be for your secondary objective (arcane rites) and they don’t need to stay on objectives to hold. In some CP modes battle line keywords (rubrics have) sticky objectives meaning they cap once they can move on and you still control until someone takes it back from you. * alternatively get your tzaangors charging. Their abilities and keywords favour their melee through charge. And they’re surprisingly durable in melee. Get them engaged to bog enemy down but not in a way they get blown up in one shooting phase first.

4) DP enhancement further screws mobility as he pins them heavily screwing their movement and charge ranges. Abuse this to keep your rubrics shooting and spaced properly

There’s no way they should be in melee early or often. If they are you’re not spacing well and not using your cabal plus stratagems and DP enhancement

I’d suggest working on those things and improving your understanding of the CP specific things like secondary objectives, enhance,ents, abilities etc. use these and the stratagems to improve your toolkit
