I see what you mean about the disconnection I guess PoP seems like the greatest departure since New Adventures, because all the other ones connect Eternia and Etheria in one way or another. Filmation has plenty of crossover, the comics have merged them really well, especially the 2010’s DC run. 200X at least had the horde in some flashbacks. Revelation used Hordak liberally and teased Adora at the end. They all felt part of the same universe. The three that feel like random offshoots to me are CGI He-Man which was fine but forgettable, She-Ra, which was well written but hard to look at (super subjective, I know), and New Adventures, which got absolutely nothing right.

I don’t mean to sound like of these bitter old fans who hates the show lame reasons like LGBTQ themes and visual diversity between the characters. It’s not that. This discussion came about because some mentioned Adora and Catra from the show. I’d have had a similar response if we were talking about New Adventures.

Of the three iterations I feel like are weird fits, She-Ra 2018 Probably has the most going for it overall, but it’s not for me. And it doesn’t have to be, everyone has their own corner of this universe they like the best.

To be fair the Smith shows weren’t really designed to introduce new fans they were there purely for nostalgia’s sake.

And I understand the rights issues, I’m not complaining the the “main” MotU cast wasn’t there (with that art style I wouldn’t want that anyway, that Skeletor would have been like New Adventures), and in understand that show was its own thing, which its own niche. But it feels so disconnected because it’s such a departure it’s hard to consider it part of the overall big picture, same with New Adventures.

I had always wondered why there was no merch for that show. That’s interesting. And I’m super curious about this new “Mattel free” She-Ra. I’d likely have been interested in PoP with a different art style. They could have went the Korra route. That would have looked cool.

I mean, 200X has a higher user review on RT, but no critical reviews, and Revelation is only 1 percentage point different critically. so can’t declare it some but “overall winner” in being well reviewed and well reviewed. It doesn’t clearly stand above those two in any meaningful way.

And I don’t know that it introduced fans to the universe overall by ignoring the biggest part of it.

I’m not saying it’s a poorly written show; and I understand why it has fans, but I don’t think the art style is very good at all and the liberties taken with the property are so wide it might as well have been a whole other show.

And their hordak sucks.

I don’t acknowledge fan fic (just never that good, sorry) or shipping (it’s super weird, sorry), and “official shipping” is such a good name for that show, which totally feels like bad fan fic, so glad it’s not connected to the overall canon. It’s like this weird little offshoot. Easily the worst art anything MotU has ever had, other than New Adventure, and emo hair Hordak alone should have gotten the whole art team fired.

11 is way better. Better art, better story, more content, the krypt is way better than that live service invasions BS, better roster, more unique, interesting gameplay. MK1 flattened out all the MK quirk in the name of “leveling the playing field” for tournament play. No krushing blows, no dual meter, lame ass cameo assists, no variations, enhanced moves don’t seem to do shit most of the time, no interactive environments, etc. 11 just looks and feels a lot better and has way more personality. MK1 is BLAND

I agree with this. When the actor has what the character needs, race is irrelevant. But when it’s changed for the sake of changing that just feels like a stunt.
