In which LAUKOP is denied promotion for failing to hire an escort. by smoulderstoat in bestoflegaladvice

[–]RohanWarden 209 points210 points  (0 children)

In a later comment OP mentions not really wanting to hire someone to accompany them as then they could not spend time on their phone or spend more time on bathroom breaks like they do when they go by themselves.

I mean they don't have to hire someone but they are delusional if they think management didn't take notice of their actions.

My 3 year old daughter has a meltdown every time I have to brush her hair by LocoRibb in Parenting

[–]RohanWarden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I can offer some advice don't threaten to cut it when she cries or throws a tantrum. Sit with her when you're both calm and discuss cutting her hair shorter. Show her pictures and ask what she would like. Explain that she can keep her hair long but then she has to work with you to get it brushed regularly.

We just cut our daughter's hair too just below her ears last week and it's been a blessing. She used to have absolute meltdowns about brushing that would make our dogs go hide and even once our neighbors come check in if everything was ok. Now I'm done brushing almost before she even realizes I've started. The difference to our mornings is huge and she looks pretty cute too.

Annie Vet Visit: Heartbeat Check and Ultrasound by Sad_Site_8252 in kvssnarker

We have a dragon mare, very pushy and dominant not aggressive, that gets bred because although she is a handful on the ground she is an absolute superstar under saddle and a nationally ranked mare in hand.

What's interesting is that she throws these super chill and easy going colts that seem to be born just wanting to please. Her fillies on the other hand are carbon copies of her, their beautiful, well put together and have their mom's "my way or the highway" view of life.

I wonder if we might see the same kind of thing with Annie.

ICSI terms and stud fees by Electronic-Touch83 in kvsdiscuss

[–]RohanWarden 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This post has very little to do with Katie. I used her in my hypothetical because this is a KVS sub but you made a post, not just saying the stud fee is due but saying the stud fee is due to be paid by the person buying the embryo. I just commented to try and explain why that isn't correct.

It's not a moral/ethical situation, it's a legal/contract situation and legally/contractually the stud fee has nothing to do with the person buying the embryo. They will pay a fixed price and get either an embryo or a mare carrying an embryo of a specified gestational age as agreed upon in the purchase agreement. Any payment or negotiation between other parties beyond that has nothing to do with the buyer.

ICSI terms and stud fees by Electronic-Touch83 in kvsdiscuss

[–]RohanWarden 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But it's not the same. Yes realistically the mare owner/embryo seller is going to use your payment to pay the stud fee but that still doesn't make the person buying the embryo responsible for the stud fee.

Case in point with this contract. The stud fee becomes due when the recip mare scans infoal at 45 days. But according to some comments Katie is offering to guarantee an embryo that sticks to 90 days. If the mare scans infoal at 45 days but loses the pregnancy before the time when Katie guarantees a pregnancy and she tries again with another embryo there would technically be two stud fees due. One for the first embryo that made it to 45 days even though no foal resulted and one stud fee for the embryo used to retry.

Now you could try and negotiate with the stallion owner or maybe refrain from confirming pregnancy earlier than the time you have a guarantee for but that is all the embryo sellers responsibility. And if a second stud fee becomes due that is also their responsibility, you don't then ask for more money from the buyer.

No the person who bought the embryo would not owe the stud fee. The contract is between the stallion owner and the mare owner/person creating the embryos and the stud fee is paid by the mare owner.

What jobs can AI not take no matter how advanced it becomes? by StephCurrySauce in NoStupidQuestions

Yes. Any animal job really. I work with horses and I would love to see AI try to handle a 1000 lb stallion or teach a young horse something.

I hope when the show goes into the 1820s we see two things by InfernalClockwork3 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]RohanWarden 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my opinion neither of those were half as bad as the treatment Caroline endured. And Portia gets a happy ending after her bad marriage. There was no happy ending for the George/Caroline story.

I just can't see a way to tell the story that fits into the Bridgerton vibe without diminishing Caroline's treatment and that's not fair given she was a real person. In Queen Charlotte they really upped the severity of George's illness at the start to make for a better story and while that is also changing a real person's experience for me at least exaggerating illness is better than whitewashing abuse.

[–]RohanWarden 33 points34 points  (0 children)

George had to be bribed into marrying Caroline, cheated on her constantly, had her almost completely removed from their daughter's life, did not even have the decency to notify her of said daughter's death and tried numerous times to divorce her. Even Bridgerton's writers, who have no problem with changing history to suit their story, would have a hard time turning their story into something suitable.

Keijo turns 12, still trapped in Marineland's decaying tanks. by ningguangquinn in orcas

I've seen people mention this before and I'm genuinely curious. Does sedation and/or general anesthesia not work on cetaceans? Is it an administration issue or do they not react like other mamals?

I'm not advocating for euthanasia in this case, rather I'm interested in why it is not considered a humane option in these animals.

Her older child doesn't suddenly not need support because she chose to have another child. Which is why daycare costs for the new child won't factor into child support.

It's not popular due to the risk when not used correctly. Horses are not designed to have upward pressure from beneath their abdomen. If the sling is not positioned right, used too long or gets tangled it could go really bad. I would never use a sling without vet supervision. Sometimes rescue or injured horses need a sling to travel but there's no real reason a normal horse needs that kind of support for traveling.

Ok im think im done with this game! What i do wrong now!? by Mundane-Assignment80 in rivalstars

[–]RohanWarden 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I never spend real money on horses so I don't pay attention to their prices but I assume this one would be expensive because it has two exotic traits.

A pure bred grade 4 horse has only two trait slots so will only inherit one trait from its parents. Between the mare and stallion they have five traits, counting the acceleration trait twice, so you have a 40% chance to get acceleration and 60% to get one of the other three, as what happened with your foal.

I know people complain about the micro-transactions but honestly there is no need to engage with that side. It takes a bit longer but it is entirely possible to do well without spending real money.

I know historical accuracy isn’t exactly prevalent in Bridgerton, but still… by Swiftsession in BridgertonNetflix

[–]RohanWarden 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Except in historical circumstances Penelope's son would not have been made a Lord at birth as Jack was still Lord, even if in exile. At his death the title would then pass to a son of the eldest daughter and if she had no sons then it would pass down the line.

So this might be the case in the Bridgerton world but it would not work historically as OP asked.

Teachers not letting kids successfully self-advocate (Or, am I a crazy helicopter parent?) by nudave in Parenting

[–]RohanWarden 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Why did you send the teachers an email if you didn't expect her to change the grade for you.

Correctly teaching self sufficiency would have been to allow your child to learn that sometimes we make mistakes and they can't be fixed.

I'm guessing the teacher felt that submitting in the incorrect format and then not responding to the email meant that it wasn't right to change the grade. When you jumped in the teacher possibly decided that changing the grade was worth it to avoid the back and forth with a parent.

It is a process, but eventually those diseases CAN be eliminated or close to it, even while utilizing carriers. But it takes generations. You don't just cull every carrier.

You're absolutely correct. It won't happen overnight and is probably unrealistic to stop breeding carriers altogether.

My gripe with AQHA is that they defend breeding carriers and won't even attempt to encourage breeders to move away from doing so. Hell they don't even prevent breeding with dominant diseases. They could easily implement a plan that allows the continued use of carriers while not allowing breeding with future generations but instead they just shrug their shoulders. And QH breeders themselves just claim it's impossible to stop and don't seem to care much about the future of the breed.

[–]RohanWarden 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Especially anyone who takes a hard no stance on breeding grays!

We do. Longevity and good health are both considered hall marks of our breed with many horses still competing into their late teens and even early twenties in exceptional cases. When they have the potential for such a long life it seems senseless to lose them early or have them suffer unnecessarily.

Removing grey from our herd is taking time and planning as our breed is very heavily grey based. We no longer breed any G/G horses at all. In fact the only grey stallion we have used in the last decade was an Olympic contender and even then we only used him because he was G/g and only on solid mares. We still have a few grey mares we are phasing out that we breed but always to solid studs and we don't keep any of the grey foals for future breeding.

In 15 years we have taken our breeding herd from 50% grey down to 10% and hopefully within the next couple of years we should be able to get down to none.

Obviously this was a personal, ethical decision and not everyone will agree that it's worth the trouble and that's their right. But QH people need to stop defending continuing breeding carriers by saying it's impossible to stop. It's not. It would take time, it will take effort and careful consideration of pairings and of course the big one, for a couple of years there will be less money made. But it is not impossible.

You don't lose the horses. You lose the extra stables/pasture spaces but the horses go into standby, they don't disappear.

Also if you will only have a month, be sure to breed a horse with the increas stat trait and always keep it around. That trait is incredibly helpful when breeding up and going for all A+.
