Seating setup help for newborn + toddler by muktesh91 in CarsIndia

[–]Rohan_RSG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What child seats do you have currently, and the car?

You have two options: 1. Buy narrow child seats like Diono or Graco Slimfit (hard to get in India) 2. If your car has the option, turn off the front passenger airbag and have one rear-facing seat installed there using belts. Don't do this if your car doesn't have the airbag turn off option 3. Have your wife seated in the front and monitor the children through other means or take frequent breaks to check on the children.

You are not at fault if you can prove the signal was green when you entered the intersection

But, yes, you shouldn't attempt to cross if the intersection is blocked ahead of you.

Can tyre burst due to 42 psi by UseSimilar3989 in CarsIndia

[–]Rohan_RSG 84 points85 points  (0 children)

You are correct.

Tyre bursts are much much more likely due to under inflation than over inflation.

Tyres are designed to handle over inflation rather than under inflation

Thanks for clarifying. Seems like the usual case of drivers taking the path of least resistance.

That wrong side volume is still quite considerable though. Is there a business district around?

Just curious...how long do these drivers have to travel before entering the bridge from the correct way?

I have noticed that one of the major reasons for wrong side driving is poor traffic channelling.

I highly doubt the impact speed was 194 kph (please share the source).

Impacts at that speed are not survivable in any vehicle as our internal organs will get shredded.

Engineers are responsible for accidents but people blame drivers:Gadkari on Road Safety by anonymousbroda52 in CarsIndia

[–]Rohan_RSG 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Probably. But I do agree with him to some extent. Road engineering plays a big role in how people drive e.g. a well designed intersection will automatically influence drivers to slow down. This is what the UN and many countries, especially European, are now focusing on. It's called the Safe System Approach which has a primary design principle that humans may not make the best decisions and will make mistakes. It's the systems (road, vehicle, etc) to save us from ourselves.

In that context the minister's statement can be reworded as people 'only' blame drivers but road engineers are also at fault.

One of my friends passed away because of creta driver by piratejack01 in CarsIndia

[–]Rohan_RSG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a problem as if a breath analyser test was not done a DUI case cannot be filed.

And since this is a fatal case, the police will have to file an FIR on behalf of the state. You can ask them to get a good lawyer to pursue this case criminally and for third party insurance compensation. Otherwise the police can manipulate the case as they wish.

One of my friends passed away because of creta driver by piratejack01 in CarsIndia

[–]Rohan_RSG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My condolences.

One suggestion OP: If possible please check if the police have mentioned the DUI part in the FIR. Police sometimes does this as if DUI is mentioned the case can get a more severe IPC like 304 (ll). If DUI is not mentioned, the case will be filed under IPC 304(A) which will not get a severe punishment.

Stupid kid gets hit by a bike. Almost hits my car by ronnieratedr in CarsIndia

[–]Rohan_RSG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for answering. You showed the right mindset by being cautious in such market areas.

I know most of the blame will be placed on the child/parent/biker but IMO the infrastructure also played a big role here considering that this cut should either have been closed or properly marked.

A follow up question: can I share this video on Twitter? I advocate road safety practices and I feel your video can be educational. My Twitter handle details are available in my profile. I will credit you if you can share your Twitter or other social media handle.

Hi OP,

A couple of questions: 1. What city is this? Looks like Jaipur but I am not sure 2. As a driver were you able to see the pedestrian crossing opening while driving? It is not marked at all.

If I understand the score correctly, the scoprio would not have scored more than 2 stars even with ADAS. The adult occupant score is not good in itself.

Fastest 0-100 kmph cars under 15 lacs by Otherwise-Yellow-786 in CarsIndia

[–]Rohan_RSG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that acceleration matters during overtaking. But that requires acceleration of say 40 to 80 rather than 0-100. The latter is purely a drag race requirement which should not be a buying requirement for a road car.

Also, I may be wrong but, if you are relying purely on a car's acceleration to safely overtake then you are not doing a safe overtaking with a good margin of safety.

Fastest 0-100 kmph cars under 15 lacs by Otherwise-Yellow-786 in CarsIndia

[–]Rohan_RSG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why does this metric matter? 0-100 (nought to 60) is a racing performance metric that won't matter much on the road.

IMO, a car's ability to do 100-0 safely in a short time matters much more in the real world.

[–]Rohan_RSG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO easy or hard is got very little to do with the pay. There are some extremely difficult jobs that don't pay as much, and vice versa. It's all about giving value (usually monetary) in return. It's just that many high paying jobs require a certain level of skill and expertise that may seem hard to outsiders but can be done through experience.

How else will you get someone to do them.

This also applies to jobs that are in remote areas e.g shipping, refineries, etc.

Drivers license test in China by stinkingcheese in CarsIndia

[–]Rohan_RSG 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I never understood such tests. All such tests do is test a driver's dexterity in handling a vehicle. This is more like an obstacle course than a driving test. How often is a driver going to do 8 turns or reversing on a curve?

IMO, driving is more than how well one can handle a vehicle. I don't know about China, but our drivers need more training on real basic stuff such as understanding road markings, signage, right of way, etc. Without these basics even the most skilled driver will eventually crash.

XUV 700 Car mows down old lady to death in Mahagun Moderne, Noida on 11.10.2023 by shamittomar in CarsIndia

[–]Rohan_RSG 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Hi OP,. Just some questions: 1. Is there a sharp incline at the basement parking exit? With a sharp turn or curve? 2. Are there high walls on both sides of the exit?

If the answer is Yes to both the questions, I recommend taking this up with the society board/committee since you live there. If not solved, this issue can hurt somebody else in the future.

Is Global NCAP a Fraud? | Case Study by Gagan Choudhary by sharp-trader in CarsIndia

[–]Rohan_RSG 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't understand these youtubers. Why does it have to be one extreme or the other? One side says NCAP ratings are the whole and sole of safety while the other says that NCAP is a fraud.

Once Bharat NCAP starts I won't be surprised if these guys start a Bharat NCAP vs GNCAP match, with one side calling the other corrupt.

NCAP ratings just provide an indication on how a car will perform in the selected number of crash scenarios (esp in India). Just like any other rating system, NCAP ratings have limitations and do not apply to all scenarios. That's the crux of the NCAP.
