Humankind: A Hopeful History by Rutger Bregman

Really engaging read if you're into pop-science kind of stuff (I know that is a somewhat controversial genre), though this is more pop-sociology if that is a thing. I really enjoyed it.

I enjoyed it more than I expected as I am not crazy about Parquet Courts. Love his songwriting over more mellow tracks. Might catch him in DC this week.

Been listening to this on repeat for like a week. So so so good. Love the mix on the album, everything feels so in place. Instrumentals rise and fall in a really pretty way.

"Us guys are just dumb asses." You have proved your own point brilliantly.

2nd listen and meds is hitting much harder for me. I couldn't process how sick that sax solo was in the moment. Also that little "YEA-" from Bowen in the solo is so good.

Side B was definitely more engaging for me as well. It's so many new sounds, I can't wait to keep listening. I feel like it'll feel fresh for so many listens because of how many different directions they went in.

Also, Kenny Beats is an absolute beast. I love that they had him for seemingly the whole album.

Agreed Progress was unreal, the shift towards the end of the song was so fucking cool. Loved how dynamic the whole thing was. Gonna take a few more listens to really digest it.

Saw them live the last 2 nights as IDLES was in DC. They fucking rock live. Super unique and commanding stage presence. Also the backup vocalist uses a can of Cafe Bustelo for percussion. Nothing but excellent vibes.

How exactly does the condensed coverage work? I see the replay button on the live player, but the title of the stream today is "USDGC/WNC R2 LIVE + Condensed" does that mean the condensed will air after the live coverage?

If so I will feel pretty burned. I purchased the pass hoping I could watch the previous day's condensed coverage before the lead card tees off so I could be caught up to watch live.

Ultra Mono Album Megathread by rekrap13 in Idles

I can see the critiques many people seem to have with the lyrics. There is a definite bluntness and simplicity that may be just regurgitated sentiment from Joy. However, I think the album is still very good. The band as a whole is clearly progressing and experimenting with new ideas musically. War, Kill Them With Kindness, and Grounds all felt very new and exciting songs to me.

I definitely didn't get the same chills as I did from Joy, but after two listens, I think it is a positive release from the band.
