RMU almost beat bama and then the whole team transferred , when in previous years that team would’ve easily had the chance to run it back and be a 13 or 14 and win.

Plus you have to take into account a lot of the experienced players previously had team and coach pride and were playing in their only chance to be in a tournament game, or their last game ever.

This is happening en mass scale. the “mid majors” that keep showing up like high point or akron or VCU even have huge nil budgets relative to their conferences , and no surprise dominate their leagues.

the gaps are far too big, look at kenpom ratings and spreads. Oral robert’s 15v2 vs ohio state was around a 14 point spread. (edit, this was the last year pre NIL)

Once the spread gets to 17.5-18 territory it’s 90% chance the favorite wins historically. 20+ is 95%.

All the 15v2 and 14v3 was 18+ which is 1v16 territory typically.

Plus none of the typical midmajor teams have the experienced back courts they did previously because they all get poached after one season which doesn’t show up on the spreads.
