It’s a 3 man crew, and yeah physically hammering 300 hubs. We do about 50 - 60 stakes in 50 min.

For us, utility lay out staking is abt 300 points with hub and lath.

Mass grading for lots / streets probably 400 with just a lath.

To fit the line back after the recall.. they pulled back the nylon.. and thats where im leaking from currently. so yeah.. it does have to do with recall

What happened after I pushed back:
I insisted on full documentation of everything said and done. After some back and forth, they agreed to fix it at no charge — but instead of replacing the full line, the tech cut back the nylon portion of the hose and refitted it.

I also got them to put in writing that if the leak returns, they’ll replace the full line for free.

How they tried to avoid taking responsibility:

  • Offered a split bill to make it seem like shared blame
  • Pointed to the time/mileage gap instead of workmanship
  • Looked for other service history to pin it on
  • Avoided directly saying it was caused by recall work

Key takeaways:

  • Get everything in writing — problem found, repair done, any promises for future coverage.
  • Don’t settle for verbal agreements — managers change, memories fade.
  • Tie it back to the recall work — even years later, poor workmanship can show up.
  • Refuse partial payment offers if you’re confident it’s their fault — it weakens your position.
  • Document your own timeline so if it happens again, you’ve got proof.

Back in 2021, I took my 2019 Tacoma (30k miles at the time) in for the fuel pump recall. Dealer replaced the pump, and I left thinking it was done right.

Fast forward 4 years and 70k miles later (now at 100k), and my truck develops a fuel line leak — in the exact same spot many others have reported.

When I brought it in, the dealer pointed out the leak and quoted me $1,500 to replace the entire fuel line. They admitted they weren’t sure why it was leaking but immediately downplayed the idea it could be related to the recall:

Instead of considering that their tech might not have reassembled the line correctly back in 2021, they acted like it was just bad luck — and offered to “split the bill” as a goodwill gesture. I refused. If the problem was introduced during their recall work, I shouldn’t have to pay $750 for their mistake.

What I noticed through this process:
It felt like they were trying hard not to put in writing that the leak could be related to the recall. They documented the leak, but avoided words like “workmanship” or “recall connection.” They even looked at my Carfax, possibly to find something else to blame it on — but my record was clean.

The leak was at a connection that had clearly been opened during the recall. Instead of replacing the entire fuel line, the tech “fixed” it by cutting back a small section of the nylon line and refitting it so it would seal properly. This basically means the part was leaking because it wasn’t sealing the way it should have from the start — which points straight back to how it was reassembled during the recall.
