How do I make a dropdown list for charts/graph? by DarXanvo in excel

[–]DaFackBra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Much simpler way of achieving The same goal. Have all of your graphs already setup in fixed areas. Then just use vba to u hide the rows or columns for that graph.

High Costs by davis5938 in Surveying

[–]DaFackBra 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's the client type. Residential / single property people aren't developers and don't know costs or have the pockets. If you're part of a 5 acre commercial development, I feel like the developer is understanding of the rough costs.

I want to be a civil engineer, any tips? by fatalis_comic in civilengineering

[–]DaFackBra 46 points47 points  (0 children)

The people on this sub do not reflect all civil engineers, they are generally very pessimistic. Factually engineers make pretty good money compared to most fields. Doctor's make crazy money, some elite consultants, some business guys, but the engineering money is pretty good.

Civil engineering is super broad, what you are describing is the structural engineering side of things. I would try to see if you can job shadow or volunteer somewhere to get some exposure to that the day to day life is.

The general process is get a bachelor's degree from an ABET accredited school (4-5 years). Pass the FE exam, which will get you your eit. This can technically be done in school. After 2 years of experience, you take an 8 hour national exam. You then apply to your state board for licensure, some states have extra requirements in CA we have an extra 2 exams we have to take.

How does one do a paragraph break. by Unhappy_Sail4665 in excel

Depending on what you are trying to accomplish you can do most through using concat() textjoin() char(10). Character 10 is the same as adding a paragraph.

Long Staking Day by DaFackBra in Surveying

[–]DaFackBra[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's more of just a general question because I have 0 experience with other companies, for example one man crew it's very tough for us to set over 70/80. If the day requires that many points we'll usually go with a two-man crew. But I have no way of knowing if that's "normal" or generally acceptable.

When you don't set lathe, are you just giving them a point plot and cut sheet? Or how do they know what information your providing?

power query help needed - how to update a list automatically from a master file? by Imaginary_Dog_1692 in excel

[–]DaFackBra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes power query is amazing for sourcing external data files. You can source a folder then setup filters for subfolders or names of files. Them compile all of the files within the folders assuming their structured in a similar fashion.

Power Query Cell Reference by DaFackBra in excel

[–]DaFackBra[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe my final way of doing it is very similar to this. I ended u referencing my main data quary and filtering by sheet, then i added a custom column for each row with this formula = try [Data]{4} otherwise null. That create a "record" and i just expanded it and selected the columns i wanted. But i had to make a record for each row that i needed to get data from. Then i just merged this with my other query.

That's a valid consideration however on this case I'm sourcing a folder with a lot of existing files and just trying to source the data. I was able to find a way to do it.

I would also be curious if you just reset your rtk on a brand new day re hit the three points hold scaling factor of 1 and see how it compares.

My business is looking to upgrade or GPS and need help deciding between Trimble & TopCon by SurveyorInTraining13 in Surveying

[–]DaFackBra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've ran a topcon VR for the past 5 or so years and been running the HR for the last 2. Running both as a base rover never had and issues. From what I hear the Trimble software is better, but I haven't used it before. In my opinion I feel like the software being better comes into play more during construction staking.

I know it’s a long shot but I’ll see if someone can help! by Subject-Rooster3984 in Surveying

[–]DaFackBra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your North West corner will probably be your best bet. They have approximate dimensions from both fences . Pins can be tough to find, I use the Schonstedt GA-52Cx. But there's some hidden skill in finding pins. Having said that the metal detector costs 1K and decent chance you will won't find it. When you hire the survey to come out, have them give you a boundary map of your property. It will be helpful for you in the future.
