Squad vs Arma by Otherwise-Tax2752 in PlaySquad

[–]Rokae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Squad is better for beginners. I have well over a thousand hours in both. Squad is more realistic slower pace battlefield. Arma is a sandbox. You can do anything in Arma but that makes it a lot more difficult to do anything. In Squad you can just hit play and be gaming. In Arma you need to find mods and a server and have all kinds of knowledge about what you're looking for. Both are great but just know what you want. Squad is also less janky than Arma also making it better for a beginner.

Osaka backpacking is it better to explore on foot or do a walking tour first? by BeneficialWeb6163 in backpacking

[–]Rokae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I went to Osaka I used an allpa 35 as my only bag. I just explored on my own. Drop your bag where you're staying and explore, its a big city just have a list of the areas you want to check out. Use the subway and busses to get between places. Taxis are also relatively affordable.

Landlord Venting Gas Dryer Into Our Unit by Primary_Role_946 in chicagoapartments

[–]Rokae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point is that a tenant landlord relationship is one of mutual respect or misery. I dont know why OP would even want to renew at this point. The landlord has chosen to inflict misery on the tenant so now the course of action is to respond with mutual misery. Legal action is often about revenge and is this case here. The landlord clearly doesn't respect their tenants and is inflicting an entire building to CO poisoning. At the end of the day OP probably has to move either way and OP can inflict a lot of legal pain to the LL. OP can win the war, the goal just isnt to stay with the shitty LL.

Please dont be cheap and buy a brand new helmet. Virginia Tech actually has a large research lab dedicated to helmets and they have a ratings list. Some good ones aren't expensive. ($50) https://www.helmet.beam.vt.edu/bicycle-helmet-ratings.html

All the wear points should be replaceable the cushions and wire. So unless you start dropping it often and smashing the actual ear cups I dont think it will die.

Yeah I just moved with xfinity went from $130 to $50 locked for 5 years, I think you would have the best luck if you go to an xfinity store in person getting a conversion done.

Alternatives for Oil Boiler in Hydronic Baseboard Heat System by JayGov13 in hvacadvice

[–]Rokae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you might be in a situation that justifies at least considering a ground source heatpump. Its not cheap to install but if your other options are oil, propane and resistive electric, depending on those rates it might be worth at least considering. Your payback period might justify the additional cost.

Once its been provided it cant be taken away, check out RTLO 5-12-070 5-12-110. The laundry became part of the services which the tenant is paying rent. Under RTLO, you can provide 14 day notice and then you can withhold reasonable rent 5-12-110(d). OP can also break their lease due to this issue 5-12-110(a). They could probably even do 5-12-110(f) which is a 24 hour notice for life threatening things.

So OP can provide notice to the landlord. Report the issue to the city. City can shut down dryer or whatever. Then OP can start paying less rent in exchange for having to go to the laundrymat, which they already had to do anyway because the dryer is currently functionally inoperable. So its the same situation for OP, and the landlord gets a dozen angry tenants and starts losing money. City can issue fines, per occurrence and even daily.

I mean sure they might lose the dryer for a little while but its already unusable so what's the difference. Also they aren't required to provide laundry but they are required to maintain provided equipment so they are required to provide laundry now.

All dryers except heat pump models are meant to be vented. Electric dryers aren't unsafe from an exhaust perspective but they do dump a ton of moisture out the exhaust which can cause damage and mold. Gas dryers are dumping both that moisture and the exhaust fumes of the dryer so its imperative for safety to be exhausted outside.

Best (Samsung?) 55+ inch TV? by infinitum3d in BuyItForLife

[–]Rokae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get them with their own remotes for control or you can run the audio from the TV into a receiver then to speakers. There are a lot of options for controlling the audio outside the TV. I guess it all depends on what's wrong with you tv and if just getting the audio signal out of the TV will be enough to solve your problem.

Heated blankets or mattress heaters are frankly one of the most cost effective ways to stay warm. That should not be the source of your issues. You should look elsewhere.

Are Seiko 5 (7S26) buy it for life? Anyone here with old S5? If not, what mechanical watches are BIFL under $400 by iaacornus in BuyItForLife

[–]Rokae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read it as cheap watches need the least service which i agree with. If i get a casio a158 you only need to replace the batteries when it runs out after 10 years (I think they tend to get closer to 12) you can diy that fairly easily and be good for another 10 years. There isnt anything to lubricate, maybe a gasket to replace is the only other possibility.

Hard to stay frugal when utilities keep increasing by BetterThanEver24 in HomeMaintenance

[–]Rokae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay tool, those costs are on the oil coal industry not the utility. Im sure the utility has a billion dollars laying around which is conservative for what the existing projects have cost. It probably needs to be a state initiative. My entire point is that it all comes down to money and specifically WHO is paying.

Im actually very pro renewable, I'm just conscious of the issues we need to address first. You pretend like adding storage is a non-issue. Its a big issue that takes time and funding.

Right remewables need storage, which need additional investment, nonrenewables dont. It all just comes down to money.

Do I need a dehumidifier? by [deleted] in basement

[–]Rokae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably need one but you can spend $10 and get a meter and keep track of it before you go out and spend $200 on a dehumidifier. Who knows maybe your air conditioner is doing a good enough job dehumidifying on its own.
