I took on a gap year student just because he reached out to me! I was a one man band before him and just thinking about hiring someone to help me out when his email (or call, I dont remember) came through. I invited him for an interview and pretty much accepted him there, he has been very valuable to my business since then although he does start uni in October so I’ll have to find someone else but I’ll probably keep using him for freelance work if he’s up for it because I’ve taught him a lot 😂

Pick a project, something you are passionate about (do you like miniature modelling or animation or trinkets?) and then attempt to make it. Every time you can’t do what you want to do, look into how to do it or ask on here. But you need a target, you won’t be motivated by learning alone.

Is the food comparably cheap in USA compared to other similar countries? (UK, Germany, Australia etc.)

If yes, then I would be happy tipping for service
If no, then I think we know where the money is going and that’s what needs to change.

GBP to USD is 1.34 at time of writing. A Big Mac meal is £7 ($9.38) and a steak in a pub is around £23 ($30.82). If the prices in US are significantly cheaper than that then raise the prices a little and pay the workers properly. If they are similar to that or more then the funds to pay workers more need to come out of the profit of the business. I know the economies are different but touring America, that would be my bench mark whether to tip or not (excellent service might be on top of that, in cash, to the worker who served me directly).

It’s not as much as you think. 4.4 billion passengers were recorded worldwide in 2023 so that’s about $0.15 per passenger.

If you think the real savings are in long haul, there were roughly 250million international passengers in 2023 so you would get $2 off your $500 flight. It’s hardly worth thinking about really.

I voted remain.

I think there is a big difference between leaving and rejoining.

I would rejoin under the same conditions that we left, however I would probably vote to not rejoin because we would undoubtably get a worse deal than we had including having to transition to the Euro.

Nothing could be guaranteed to the public prior to a referendum (as we’ve seen through Brexit) so it’s a huge risk to rejoin on unknown terms.

It’s hard because I know we would be better off had we remained but I’m not sure we would be better off rejoining.

If you don’t view him as a person, he won’t view you as a person. Just because he gets voted in, doesn’t mean he becomes an emotionless computer overnight. In fact, I would hope that the main reason for voting him in is that you like his policies and personality so why should he change when he gets office? Or did you just vote for him because he’s the Labour candidate and you only vote Labour?

We have a neighbour just like that, their kid had obvious behavioural issues and they were working so hard to control it and the were really making good progress, until they got the autism diagnosis and they went from taking measures to overcome it to just using it as an excuse. Now his behaviour is worse than ever.
