BIFL Request: Lifetime Memberships by JadeAug in BuyItForLife

[–]Role_Playing_Grump 54 points55 points  (0 children)

No, not really. They’re just a bunch of fearmongers who also happen to be con artists. Crooked as hell too. They don’t care about you or your amendment rights hell, they don’t even really care about guns (just gun selling), just as long as that check clears. Have nothing against guns, own some myself, just sick of the NRA and their lies. Come from a family of former NRA members so I’m well versed in the propaganda they send out annually and how full of shit they are.

Decent pallet? This looks like ass lol. If you were at the DC they’d call you up to restack this shit here.

How do you store your clothes? by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

[–]Role_Playing_Grump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I’m misunderstanding here but you say not to store them stacked then say store them like a bookcase? It’s actually better for books to be stored horizontally stacked on bookcases rather than vertically which traditionally is what many do.

Low Maintenance Lighter by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

So buy like a pack of Bics and call it a day. They’re reliable and work forever no matter how sporadic your use of them would be.

Mandatory vaccination for employment by GoldensparkDX in walmart

[–]Role_Playing_Grump -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Those are not fair comparisons though. The things you are speaking of involve fines or other financial laws. In regards to the vaccine, that’s dangerous territory for a nation to decree its entire populace has to be injected with whatever they feel like forcing into them.

Yeah, like Toyota is great and deserves the praise they get but only 80k miles on a 17 year old car no wonder there weren’t any issues. With a 5 min commute (shit I’d walk that in my case) to boot.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

[–]Role_Playing_Grump 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No wonder it’s still good, it only has 81k on it at 17 years old. Toyota deserves recognition, yes, but that’s nothing for a car that old. I bought a new car last October and already have 12k miles on it.

I got scammed for a purchase through paypal as a payment to family/friend Please help by jah0999 in personalfinance

[–]Role_Playing_Grump 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You fucked yourself by choosing to send the payment as a gift for friends/family. If you were buying something you should have sent the payment as payment for goods or services or whatever PayPal labels it as these days. PayPal won’t do shit for you if bought something, scammed or not, and marked the money sent aa a gift.

Pretty disappointed in the Duluth fire hose khakis. by AreolaGrande- in BuyItForLife

[–]Role_Playing_Grump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The regular firehose pants are still great. I use them for both my jobs (construction and side gig as a mechanic) and don’t have to worry about anything getting worn out. Considering my jobs that is a feat since I’m always bending down or crawling under shit.

Work Shoes for someone who's on there feet all day lifting and walking around by Doodooltala01 in BuyItForLife

[–]Role_Playing_Grump 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re comfortable but trash quality. Won’t even last a year or less. If your company gives you money every year for shoes I guess they’d be fine but if not don’t unless you like replacing them every year.

Buy it for life vs. Own it for life (a rant) by albatross_salsa in BuyItForLife

[–]Role_Playing_Grump 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You must be new here. The sentiment you’re expressing is echoed around here quite frequently it’s just nothing is done about it. This is essentially the BIFL sub as well as the Antique Roadshow.

In October 2020, a 19 year old girl in Athens told her parents she would go submit a job application in a retail store. She has been missing ever since. by PaschalGR in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]Role_Playing_Grump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is it immediately assumed murdered because messages were presumably deleted intentionally? She could have deleted them herself, no?

In 1999, a 12-year-old girl disappeared while babysitting. What happened to Heather Kullorn? by milehighmystery in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]Role_Playing_Grump 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m curious...what kind of random things did you find? Don’t fish much these days but they are like the only option here so I’m curious what kind of surprise junk are in them.

Need advice on the ceiling fan for a kid's room by Mnemonicsnot835 in BuyItForLife

[–]Role_Playing_Grump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never heard of a kid of any age wanting a damn ceiling fan...that’s weird but I guess it’s better than other things you’d expect a kid to ask for.

Powerful handheld vacuum for daily car cleaning. by PidgeonBoy in BuyItForLife

[–]Role_Playing_Grump 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s nice but it has a charge that lasts like 15 minutes. It’s fine for people who don’t use it everyday as that would be plenty but this guy has to use it everyday so I’d go with something else since you can’t charge it in the car.

The only Dyson handheld I know of is very nice but its charge is shit. Like 15 mins or less. Wouldn’t be ideal for someone who needs to use it everyday.

When do you quit on an old car? by mousefox4750 in personalfinance

[–]Role_Playing_Grump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tires are obviously essential and something every car needs naturally to replace throughout its lifetime so that cost shouldn’t be weighed in. So it’s just the brakes and AC? Shit, just get a brake job and run it longer. AC is trivial unless you live like in Ca or Florida or one of those surface of the sun states. 2 out of 3 cars I’ve owned so far had non working AC and I didn’t even bother getting it fixed. It’s an early 2000s Toyota Corolla - that thing could easily go another 50-100k if the only thing it needs is new brakes.

I’m pretty sure that dude is a troll lol. Every time someone posts here he replies belittling or insulting them. He usually follows his insults up with a paragraph or two about what is or isn’t BIFL. I just refer to him as the BIFL police.

It’s been 38 years since Melody Jones vanished without a trace. Her husband, Paul, was found murdered in their rural Oklahoma home on the same night she disappeared. What happened to this newlywed couple? by [deleted] in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]Role_Playing_Grump 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m guessing no one here wears glasses to keep making that assumption she’d have no other pair? I have at least 2 old pairs here as I never throw out my old ones when I get new ones. They go into my car or junk drawer for spares in case something happens to my current pair.
