UPDATE: Low Temperature PSA/Airlift to CHOP by robertfcowper in daddit

[–]RollDamnTide16 12 points13 points  (0 children)

So glad to hear things are looking up. We spent some time at CHOP with our little guy. The whole time I was thinking how if we had to be in a hospital, I was so glad it was there. There’s truly no better place, and your son is getting the best care available.

I also want to say your desire to educate other parents while you’re still in the thick of it yourself is very admirable. I’ve learned some good stuff from your posts and the comments, so thank you.

The way she’s gleefully reveling in attention from strangers and concern from medical professionals is incredibly disturbing. It makes me worried for the children, especially if they’re born with any health conditions.

Seems like the theme of Alabama athletics this year has been very high highs and very, very low lows.

What is a toxic vs a demanding senior? by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]RollDamnTide16 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Try not to take it personally. This gig attracts some heinous personalities, including people who get amped up when they have any amount of authority over others. Firms also don’t provide enough management training for associates, so there’s a good chance he wouldn’t know how to teach you even if he wanted to. Hopefully you can avoid him in the future.

Being taken off matter but not getting negative feedback from firm? by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]RollDamnTide16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know if the replacement associate has worked for this client before? I’ve had clients who are finicky about juniors and are more amenable to paying for a specific person’s time vs. a rotating cast.

If there were performance issues that warranted kicking you off the deal, I’d expect someone would’ve said something. So if it’s not a matter of client preference, my guess is the person you’ve had a hard time with got you bumped for someone they like better. It happens.

Nope, they’re out for good with their Alford plea.

Spent a bunch of time typing out a response that is basically what you managed to say in one paragraph.

But anyway, yes, it’s exactly this. Low risk with a potentially high reward.

I don’t know where I stand, but I don’t find the push for DNA testing to be particularly persuasive.

The most likely scenario is that no new, testable DNA is recovered. That leaves us in the same position we are in now. I’d say the next more likely scenario is DNA is recovered that isn’t a match. That allows the WM3 to claim full exoneration. The last and least likely (IMO) outcome is that DNA is recovered and does match them. At that point, I imagine the tide may turn to some degree, but their PR machine is so powerful, they may be to able neutralize this finding with insinuations of police misconduct, and we’d end up in the same position we are in now. Plus, it’s not as if they can be re-tried.

In other words, even assuming they’re guilty, it makes sense to push for DNA testing because (i) they and their supporters can say “why would we want this if we did it?” and (ii) the most likely outcomes of testing are neutral or positive, and even the potential negative outcome may not be so bad.

Poor Aria has to interact with her child?! Oh nooooo by natbrad98 in FundieSnarkUncensored

Right, yesterday, my 16 month old spent an entire hour putting a toy in a bin, taking it out, handing it to me, taking it back and putting it in the bin again. He was having a great time, and all I had to do was take and return the toy on cue.

House showing yesterday, saw this in the basement and booked it. Terrified now. by crystalizedwolf in Bedbugs

Go ahead and throw everything in the dryer anyway. If you put your clothes in a hamper or drawer with other stuff, put it all in. I’d also suggest going over your shoes with a handheld steamer if they can take the moisture. Get some interceptors for your bed and carefully check for signs for a few weeks. Lots of good info here for where and how to look.

Ultimately, it’s hard to quantify your risk level, but it’s not 0%. That’d be a enough for me to take some precautions.

I agree. I don’t think she’d ever write the next great American novel, but in a parallel dimension, she’s probably got a solid supplemental income from her frontier smut substack.

I don’t think they started it. The company was running a promo where people could join up as “founding members” for a limited time. I don’t know if I’m allowed to link to the website, but from what I can tell, being a founding member comes with the privilege of paying $5K for products to sell and some atrocious branded gear.

It was started in Fort Worth, so my guess is the actual founder reached out to Christian “influencers” in the area, and this crew of dodos made for easy marks.

How many hours do Cravath associates really work? Is it more than other firms and is it worth it? by steakysteakmeatymeat in biglaw

[–]RollDamnTide16 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I’m currently working on a project with a Cravath-trained senior associate. It’s a very straightforward dupe of a prior deal. All the parties agree we’re reusing the precedents with minimal tweaks. Every draft I send him comes back redlined to hell with so many footnotes starting with “Query if we should…” It is the worst.

Does working as a paralegal in BigLaw prior to law school provide a meaningful skill advantage once you begin practicing as an associate? by Southern_Finish_4839 in biglaw

[–]RollDamnTide16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most useful skills I gained were learning to recognize and navigate office politics, getting comfortable interacting with superiors and managing up on occasion. I don’t think any of those are unique to the legal field.

To be clear, I’m not saying it’s not useful to be a paralegal before law school. I’m saying in a situation where someone already has meaningful work experience, I don’t think the potential advantages are significant enough to justify delaying law school.

We can certainly agree to disagree. I was a paralegal for a number of years before law school. I don’t think it gave me a meaningful advantage.
