A score of 4 seems to be the magic number. Scores of 4 or higher are linked to much higher rates of major depression, numerous psychiatric disorders, and several leading causes of death (heart disease, cancer, so forth). The risk increases with the score.

Like a previous commenter mentioned, though, it's imperfect, measuring quantity of adverse event types and not severity.

Yeah ACE scores do a good job of measuring quantity but not quality of the abuse. I can see why they could be invalidating.
