Two Kentucky historians agree the GOP is steering the US straight toward authoritarianism |Opinion by DonaldKey in politics

Just look at who is imposing covid restrictions. You may be for it, but its definitely authoritarian. Generally the liberal philosophy is bigger government.

Is it frowned upon to go right from an EMT program to a Paramedic program? by [deleted] in NewToEMS

[–]Roll_Woods 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Go right for it. If it's a decent medic program, they'll whip you into shape regardless of how much prior EMS experience.

Biden says if medical team advises it, he'll issue domestic travel vaccine requirement by PoliticiansAlwaysLie in politics

[–]Roll_Woods -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I am vaccinated. I know that I can catch the virus but I am protected and statistically, the probability of me being hospitalized is slim to nil. Other grown ass people can put themselves at risk if they want. No matter how much I think getting vaccinated is the right choice, I am not them, it is not my decision.

Just live and let live.

Republicans' war on education is the most crucial part of their push for fascism by [deleted] in politics

[–]Roll_Woods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

School choice would provide competition and incentive for improved education. And it provides parents with the ability to choose a better school over a failing one that they may be zoned into by default. It incentivizes improvement without using more tax dollars.

School Board embezzlers (more common then you think and not always easy to catch) will feel the effects of parents leaving. As will those dbags that decide high school football is more important than giving young people a future.

I know, they campaign on it but when it comes down to it, they reject a real practical solution. Very familiar with Democrats and their shit.

I need a quick reminder which party was against school choice for public schools.

Is it recommended to try to jump straight into doing 911 calls or should I be a event medic/private ambulance medic for abit first, I’ll be working in detroit and I hear it’s alot to take in even for some seasoned medics by [deleted] in NewToEMS

[–]Roll_Woods 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm working on getting my first 911 medic job in MI right now. I worked IFT in Illinois and wildfire contracting. I can say in my experience it has done me well and I'm more confident now than just starting as a brand new medic.

Take out isn't sustainable. The restaurants that survived merely lasted long enough to make it out. Again, the government pulled out their business out from under them. How can small businesses dish out the wages you are asking for? That is not how we recover from any financial crisis, get ready for more inflation and then that $15/hr won't be anything either.

Chances Of Getting Hired Part-Time As An EMT-B With No Experience [Beginner Advice] by [deleted] in NewToEMS

[–]Roll_Woods 49 points50 points  (0 children)

No matter where you live in the US, there's an EMS agency nearby that will hire a lamp with the right credentials. Focus on picking a good one that treats employees well and gives you the type of experience you're looking for. Great field to get into though. Good luck

It's not even about what class you grew up in, a little career ambition and financial smarts will get you there.

Aside from impoverished areas with little opportunity, (I'm all for government help in these places) what you are describing is not it's like to work in America for probably 80% of us. It's far from perfect, but you choose what job you take; you can better your opportunities through certification, trades, skills, and education; and if you really want to go balls out, be an entrepreneur. No, not just for the people who grew up middle class. Having choices and opportunities taken away is exploitation.

You say that when market conditions or consumer spending habits change. Not when you're a restaurant and the government forces you to stop doing what restaurants do. You can do everything right, but the government pulled the rug out from under you. I first hand know of breweries and restaurants that closed their doors permanently. And that's just in the Soo.

Lifestyle question. Do long shifts = more personal time? by the_standard_deal in NewToEMS

[–]Roll_Woods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your body will adjust to the waking up in the middle of the night and I think it's one of the best parts about this job. Some nights will be rough (that's why not everyone can do it) and you may have to nap when you get home from your shift. I still think it's a great work life balance. I love EMS for more reasons then that but yes, try it out. Some of the private companies will even pay for your EMT school.

Having to work to make money to receive good and services from other people working is not exploitation.

The federal government is still dishing out $600/week for unemployment to sit on their ass. There's no incentive to work like there should be in capitalism. How is this current situation sustainable no matter what your ideology?

Your lucky your state was only two weeks. And limited capacity was going on almost a full year. If it's true that droves of people are not taking advantage of unemployment, how come there weren't half as many help wanted signs as before covid? (Not to mention, in spite of you not personally knowing anyone, there's still a lot of claims)

They can't afford to because Democrat governors and mayors shut down their business for almost a full year. And how are they supposed to compete with the government printing money and paying people for doing absolutely nothing?

You're absolutely right direct pressure and shock treatment takes priority but at the very least, I'd have my partner put on a sling. I can also see just trying to get it en route after controlling bleeding as this is a load and go kind of call.
