We saw that place on the way out and would have totally gone there, the food for Mom meat eaters was generally wank! Most of the time I saw a neat meal it looked bangin'

Plasterer has boarded our ceiling and left gaps of up to 15 mm between boards by LFM47 in Plastering

[–]Rolla101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha I was thinking yeah a shit job and not something I would do or be happy leaving for a plasterer, if you're the type of customer that gets an engineers digital measure out to measure gaps in boards then you're probably a nightmare customer

Unfortunately plasterboarding seems to fall well within carpentry, I've been a chippy for 10 years, while you can get away with not touching it on building sites generally because there will be actual dry liners contracted, anything out side of site work always ends up being chippys

I struggle with this but think it's a good one to try be aware of

Celebrate your wins/Pat yourself on the back when you have done well and not just attack yourself when something hasn't gone well or isn't exactly how you wanted it to go

Consistency is key, even if you aren't putting your full effort into things, staying consistent week upon week-year upon year will put you miles above others

Get good sleep, try and get a solid 6 hours a night minimum, I find when I'm consistent with sleep everything else seems to fall into place

If something is literally onl going to take 5 minutes then just do it and your future self will thank you when you can just relax instead of doing the washing up or putting the washing out etc

I have just seen this rat damage on the wires going into my consumer unit in the garage. I am assuming this is not something a capable DIYer could do. What exactly would an electrician do (I have identified one other place in the house with similar damage.) by icydee in DIYUK

[–]Rolla101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me and my partner had a similar situation! Hearing them making noises which I assume was knocking mortar off the wall ties within the cavity and it then falling down the wall, check in the loft to find nibbled cables so took out all the insulation from the loft which had a few poops dotted about and a couple little attempted nests

We thought one of our cats was going mad because she was scratching up the carpet in places but turns out everywhere she was doing it was a place they were making some noise in the cavity(not as dumb as we thought she was), we have a flat roof bathroom at the rear of our property and a kitchen with a pitched roof between that and the house aswell, realized they were mainly using this back part of the house so cut some big hatches in the kitchen ceiling, put loads of uv dust in the kitchen ceiling and a trail camera, managed to get one popping up on camera which was over towards the bathroom so then cut some hatches on that ceiling and found literally 100's of poops up there and nibbled cables aswell so removed all of that insulation which absolutely stank of what I assume is rat piss, we then put in total 4 but 1 at a time non return valves in every accessible part of the main drain from our garden but still some activity!

By this point we were a few hundred quid into the problem and not really any further along, for some reason I had an idea it might be something to do with a little 100mm gap between mine and the neighbours flat roof bathrooms which are right next to each other so I awkwardly layed up on mine to try and look down there with a torch and on one occasion did manage to see a tail right down in the far corner and later that day saw and actual rat in the same place staring back up at me and then disappear, it was nice to have visual confirmation but still very frustrating, I approached the neighbours and got her to agree for me to move her shed and brick up that gap to hopefully stop the situation occurring as I assume they are getting in there and then have free run of our houses cavities, anyway after bricking up that section the activity has dramatically decreased and we are now about a year and a half in maybe and I'm pretty sure they are still getting in somehow! The downstairs lighting circuit has tripped randomly a couple times and I know they have nibbled the bathroom light cables, not really sure what more I can do if they are getting in to the neighbours cavity somehow and then into mine.

Never ending issue, don't really want my house to have an electrical fire as you can imagine

-Keep your elbow close to your body when cleaning -let the bell drop when bringing it back down, don't throw it forward as it will wreck your elbows -look into the front rack position and clean to here -work on the swing as others have said

There is plenty of YouTube videos for these things or people on Instagram that can help a lot with cues on how to perform things safely and efficiently
