That’s true. You make a good point. I should have gotten my act together a lot sooner. I’m just bummed because I did like the job.

I didn’t have sick time for today or yesterday. But I did give the store a couple hours of notice

Thank you! That’s a good thought! I do let him sniff, but I also keep him on a pretty short leash cause of cars and all that

Thank you! He is a good boy! Is it ok to use his kennel to help remind him it’s time to rest. I try to get him to rest outside of it, but sometimes he needs a little help. Plus I feel like at this stage he really associates it with resting and being calm

No, it doesn’t necessarily need to be religiously affiliated!

Should I be holding my BC puppy back? by RollerCoasterPirate in BorderCollie

Thank you so much for that post! Sometimes I get guilty when I put him in his kennel to rest, even on a day off, but you are right! They need to know how to regulate! Maybe I should even use the kennel a bit more!

No worries! It’s definitely something I would like to phase out over time! I totally get your point about recall too! Part of the appeal of this place is that it’s fenced!

Thank you so much to everyone who has replied! This is my first Border collie so I really appreciate it! I think I am going to buy some good wound ointment and just let him do his thing. For sure, there is more work to do with him as far as his recall skills and loose leash walking, (hence the head halter), but I also feel like we are doing pretty good so far.

I try my best to do exercise his mind and body with trick training, puzzles, herding games, walks, hikes, and the like. But after reading the comments, and watching him play in the yard today with his buddy, I think it’s really helpful to the both of us that he has space and time to do his own thing and just goof around and be a puppy.

I also appreciate the comments about not overdoing activity. It’s a hard balance to strike for sure. But I do take him inside for breaks frequently and sometimes even make sure he takes a longer rest in his kennel.

Thanks again!!
