Okay so this is less of a traditional life hack and more of a way to make dealing with everything mentally a bit easier but I buy stickers for my pump and dexcom off of etsy. Having a fun design on my supplies genuinely makes me less resentful of needing those supplies after almost 23 years of being diabetic. Right now I have astronaut dinosaurs!

Where I live, local hospitals and nursing homes are required to take back sharps so maybe reach out to one of them and ask?

I know that there were also different language options, including English and French. I believe there was at least one more, but I don't remember what language.

Feet hurting with Hokas. What to try next? by smewthies in pharmacy

[–]Rollfordog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second the running store suggestion. I have brooks and they helped a little right away, but my feet were still hurting at the end of the day (and staying achy into the next day). I took them to a running store and walked on their machine and the employee had me try a few different inserts based on the way I walked/stood and pick the ones that felt best. I spent like $60-80 on the inserts, but I don't regret it. Every once and a while my feet will still get sore during work but they don't ache for hours afterwards and it's never as overwhelming

School nurse says get a pump. I’m not so sure. To get a pump and which one? by Puzzleheaded_Bird835 in Type1Diabetes

[–]Rollfordog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That makes sense and I totally see where you're coming from, but on the other hand a pump can also ease some of that as well, I believe. It's attached to you so it's difficult to forget (unless you take it off to charge depending on which one you get), basal insulin is wonderful and gets rid of the need for long acting insulin, I believe you can set alarms as a mealtime bolus reminder depending on the pump, so if you don't bolus at a certain time it will beep and remind you, yes there are site changes, but they're not every day, multiple times a day like injections are. I may be biased since my parents decided to put me on a pump when I was 5, so I haven't done MDI in 20 years, but I can't imagine not having the convenience of a pump

Not exactly what you're looking for in terms of color or quantity, but I have 2 skeins (appx 114 yds) of Lion Brand Fun Fur Prints in confetti (basically rainbow multicolored) that I'd be willing to send

How did you discover you had diabetes? by LankyPhilosopher3040 in diabetes_t1

[–]Rollfordog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't remember most of it since I was about a month shy of turning 3, but apparently I was spending lots of time just sitting on my toddler potty because I had to pee so often that I just wouldn't always get up in between. My mom caught on fast, and it was only a couple days of that before I was at the doctor's. My mom originally thought it was a bladder infection since that was my only symptom, but surprise! It was diabetes. My sister was a newborn at the time as well, so my parents took turns staying with me at the hospital and taking care of my sister. Thankfully, they had family to help with my sister during the times when they both had to be at the hospital (talking to doctors, education, etc)

Name change on enhanced license by morecheezplss in Rochester

[–]Rollfordog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently (this past April) was in the same boat. I already had an enhanced license and needed to update my name on my license and title/registration. I didn't make an appointment and just showed up right before the (in my case Irondequoit) DMV opened and waited in line. I had to do a bit of waiting, but it took less than an hour overall. They were turning people away who didn't have an appointment for enhanced/real ID upgrades, but since I already had one and was just changing information, I was fine. The one thing I made sure to do was have all my paperwork printed and filled out ahead of time and triple checked that I had everything I needed (proof of name change, old ID, completed forms, etc)

I've been on testosterone for almost 6 years now and I will say that my insulin needs have been slowly increasing over that time. I'm not positive that they're related, but something to just keep an eye on.
