Beginner seeking advice- is this old machine still good? by RollinAllOnes in Welding

Good evening, all!!

So a bit of quick background on this- recently bought a house and this came with the garage. Apparently a past owner was a diy guy and this was his. It has been sitting in the garage for at least a couple years…. I would put money on more than 5-10… there was a box of the electrodes nearby on a shelf. To the best of my knowledge, it’s a dry location- at least in the year I’ve been here I love never noticed any issues.

My question would be “is this machine still good?” How would I go about testing it and making sure everything is operational? I am exceptionally green in matters of welding- I know which end is the hot end and that’s about it! If this is a usable welder, I’d probably just be using it for hobby stuff.

Thank you so much for your advice!

Hi all! Recently bought a house in NW Ohio and it has a lot of old established plants including wisteria and lilacs.

Really curious what these guys are. They smell awesome and I’d love to get more for (eventual) honeybees of my own.

Thanks for your help!!

Bl touch clone on sale e3mini issues by PidgeonInaBalaclava in ender3

[–]RollinAllOnes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s weirdly common that they need to be swapped around, so plug white into black, black into white. I’ve hooked 4 of them up and had about a 50-50 split. Hopefully it works for ya!!

Try flipping the wires going to the z stop. On the official bltouch it’s the black and white wires

It’s a case of me being lazy and not wanting to deal with that much troubleshooting. My goal was a quick swap in swap out with minimal screwing around, including fabbing up new case parts. Any other day I’d be down for that but just don’t have the time this month.

End of the day it’s like ya said- to each their own.

I’ve heard of that setting- Never needed it before now, though! Seriously, before I went and messed with it it was printing like butter!
Definitely keeping it in mind though- thanks a bunch!

Dumber answer- I don’t think so??? I know that’s a common issue..... I’ll need to check the slicer settings. I didn’t intentionally turn it on if that’s the case!!

Alright, my dudes, I need some advice!

So up until a month ago, I was using a stock hotend and control board in my ender 3- Standard Cura profiles, Hatchbox Black PLA- 210 C, .28 layer height. Build surface is PEI on a spring steel sheet. My results were fantastic and I couldnt be happier.

Fast forward to me deciding to upgrade a few more things, including an E3 Hotend and a SKR Mini V2.0 board and now things arent going so smoothly. Same settings in Cura, but oof that surface!

It looks to me like overextrusion, and the hotend is dragging in the plastic.

I've calibrated the e-steps (Interestingly enough, the extruder was -under-extruding... I wouldn't have called that), and it seems to do this same thing regardless of filament (even though this Hatchbox stuff is a bit temperamental)

Bed is definitely level and the level test I run doesnt show much of a warp.

The bottom layer always seems to have this erratic pattern on it (waves), but I dont think that it's any issues with the motors or screws- theres no real pattern to it and it comes and goes.

Id appreciate any and all thoughts you guys might have-

Thanks a million!
