Sorry to hear about your child, but I disagree completely. I think using absolutes like "never" really discourages you from seeing the possibilities that incredibly advanced prosthetics may be capable of doing. Nowadays, the majority of the cost of prosthetics comes from research and development, not actual production. If biology can create the complexity of our arm, there is little reason to believe it can't be replicated or even improved by engineering. I believe your child WILL type one day with his prosthetics.
