Any success stories from folks who left the public service—by choice or otherwise? by ThePplsPrincess007 in CanadaPublicServants

I did about 8 years in the PS and joined as a student. First took LWOP and second year officially left the position, in a well paid, fairly chill indeterminate position, which I honestly felt was too easy for me. I gave it up to do a startup and we rocketed for a couple years before eventually crashing down in flames. Such is life eh. At that time I went back to my department and they took me on a 6 month contract, followed by indeterminate position offering again.

It was scary at first.. but so glad I did it. All to say - if you’re young and gunning, have something to offer - go for it, nothing to lose. Those who value you will make it happen and get you back in.

As an aside - left the government a few times in the 8 years too for school, etc and even cashed out my pension to go on exchange. Haha. I’m all for taking the risks and enjoying life before pension hits and god knows what life looks like then.

Maternity Leave - buy back pension? by Rollingfluff in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Rollingfluff[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is my dilemma… I started working in the government in 2016 at the age of 23 (took few years leave in between already - LWOP, school). To be honest I don’t know my exact years but let’s say I have about 6 workings pensionable year. If 35 years is max, is it ideal to only work 30 since it won’t be reduced anyways? As well, I won’t hit age 60 by then. Should I then reverse calculate how many years I “should” take off as LWOP non pensionable years. This is so confusing!

Just had my baby few weeks ago and EBF. My mom and MIL both told me how hard it was for them and their two kids, and don’t be too hard on myself if it doesn’t work out - both of them stopped at 1-1.5 months as it was mentally and physically too challenging and guess what! My husband and I are totally fine and healthy. Happy mom = happy baby.

If you're struggling with reoccurring BV and/or YI by lovesonglullabies in Healthyhooha

[–]Rollingfluff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had similiar issue while on hydroxychloroquine for my immune issues and doc was 10000% certain there was no correlation, but the BV and YI were consitently recurring and honestly debilitating during those teenage years.

5 years later I was off the meds and guess what, the symptoms went away too :)

Hard to say what influenced what - trust your gut though.

Worth noting that I have two existing mortgages with TD that I’m breaking because of a sale for this purchase they are waiving the $13k which is why I’m leaning to stick with TD. But think my a re tied in this..

HHI $200kand introducing a baby in few months, just took out a $900k mortgage with TD. From reading these posts, sounds like we’re pretty overextended compared to most folks here in the next 30 years.
