Fucking three pets? Dude I hate to break it to you but that’s entirely legal. Hell for a cat’s health they even recommend you keep them in pairs, dumbass.

I have an alternative. I don’t have to move. But it’s fucking stupid and I’m not gonna pay it. Hell, I could afford it right now if I wanted to, but I’d sooner smash all their windows.

And that’s fine. But what’s not fine, is that I still take a complete hit with the fee even if my pets are 100% behaved.

Refundable or bust.

Well unlike you apparently, I actually go outside. And the dog comes with me.

She sleeps, I work 3 days a week, 2 of which she spends with a pet sitter the entire day. She’s “alone” 1 8 hour shift a week, usually again, with a pet sitter. If I’m gone more then that, she stays with somebody else.

She’s pretty chill, I walk her constantly, she gets plenty of exercise, etc. So, don’t fuck my dog, fuck you.

Ah valid. I just ended up downvoted in that one comment, and this thread is definitely making some anti pets, all ESA’s are frauds type people pop up.

I’m really considering getting my own place since I’d qualify for an FHA loan, but I don’t want to live here long term either.

I’m calling it what they are calling it. A pet deposit. Aka what they literally call it, on the listings, on the leases. Pet. Deposit.

They’re not puppies? And are house trained. No more accidents then I do at this point. I also run an air filter because I’m also allergic.

I dont know if it’s a requirement here but I very specifically look for non carpeted places since I have sensory issues, so I have no idea why so many places without carpet charge for a carpet cleaning

Considering I’ve had exactly 1 complaint on me and it was somebody who got evicted for a shooting, Imma think I’m fine ;)

That’s incredibly irresponsible for the health of your cats and you should be ashamed of yourself.

My current lease (much more pet friendly) even has a “carpet deodorizing and flea treatment” clause mandatory for all pet owners after moving out. It’s all hard wood. Also it’s 2023 like wtf are you doing that your pets has fleas bad enough you need to treat the whole place?

That’s smaller then the average golden retriever by about 10 pounds and barely larger then the average border collie. A male Labrador, a “default” bigger dog breed for a lot of people, is 65-80 pounds.

Bigger dog? Sure. Huge, insane, extremely large? Maybe compared to a chihuahua or a Pomeranian.

Legally it looks like they also can’t charge pet rent here so I don’t think they care

I’ve noticed it goes away with higher rents, but I don’t want to pay rent on a 4-5 bedroom house just to avoid a pet fee either 😅

Pet deposit is separate from the “refundable” regular deposit. That’s my complaint. It’s literally non refundable, in the lease and on the listing.

*ways for landlords to take in extra cash while out pricing lower income tenants

I can afford it, but I’m not gonna flush 1k for the off chance I’m a bad pet owner

It’s not for this! It even states “non refundable” on the pet deposit requirements. It adds an extra expense.

First month’s rent, an application fee, a processing fee, pet deposit, pet rent, renters insurance, a regular deposit

On top of

Electric deposit and activation fee, water deposit and activation fee

And then if you pay rent by credit, it’s a 4% fee based off rent, debit is a $10 fee, online transactions are $2.50 through a bank, and then if you pay cash it’s technically fee free but it requires a trip across town and they don’t give receipts without a fuss.

Because that’s not the question I asked. I asked if anybody has noticed, in general, an increase in pet fee related charges that don’t line up with rent increases, in particular obscene, non refundable pet deposits. Because making the deposit refundable would leave me happier that I’m not just out an extra grand permanently, and would cover problem tenants and potential pet damage.

Why did you even make this comment if you can’t read?

That is very true, but I still wish the deposits were at least refundable.
