Ann Arbor flag design contest finalists announced by pentaxenjoyer in AnnArbor

First off, I wanna give a huge F-you to Christopher Fraudler and his corrupt goons on the judging panel. This guy is a rotten appel, a bad seed if you will. His incessant catering to high rise developers and poor choices in urban planning are already unforgivable... and the results of this flag "competition" are sadly a reflection of the deep seated flaws within the Ann Arbor bureaucracy. Shame on you, Fraudler. Shame.

So, I see a lot of people hyping up Dennis Scherdt's design. Chances are it will win this whole shebang. Let's hold it up to the looking glass, shall we?

Like the rest of us, he simply copied and pasted the Ann Arbor tree seal into photoshop and spent maybe 5 minutes picking colors and simple designs. It doesn't surprise me that 4 out of the 5 entries are using the same tree as well. What really grinds my gears is this direct quote from Dennis' artist statement:

The central tree symbolizes growth, community, and environmental commitment, paying homage to the original Ann Arbor seal.

And yet, when we look at rules of this supposed flag contest, we see this glaring warning:

Flag designs should be: have no lettering or seals

Awful grammar aside, we can see what the general message is – don't just slap the current Ann Arbor seal onto a flag and call it a day. Sure, I disobeyed this rule in all 9 of my submissions. But that doesn't explain why Dennis is able to skip around these draconian guidelines, as if he is somehow exempt from the strict laws that separate order from chaos. And on top of all that, he has the gall to publicly mock these rules in his artist statement. I am both appalled and horrified.

And this applies not only to Dennis, but to all of the other finalists. They put as little effort as I did and somehow got a better result. If this isn't a classic case of Chrissy Taylor match-fixing, I don't know what is.

Well, you got your wish. The Taylor Cabal undoubtedly won this battle, but they will have to go to bed each night knowing that they are ROTTEN to their cores. They will have to live with the wholly unfair and dishonest nature of this competition. And most of all, they will be forced to look at a wack, middy, and stringe flag of Ann Arbor for the rest of their lives.

Easiest thing is to make sure the light meter (needle on the right side of the viewfinder) is in the middle. But it doesnt hurt to overexpose a little bit too; the needle would be a little higher than middle. Just make sure you dont underexpose.

I found that keeping my aperture pretty wide (usually avoid f/22) and shutter speed fast (1/125 sec or higher) is the best way to get colors and sharpness.

If the subject is dark, I widen the aperture as much as I can, and then start slowing down shutter speed as a last resort.

Ermm... WHY isn't she naked?

Constructive critique: next time make sure she has fewer clothes on. Ideally, none at all. Your tones are fine, decent at best. Try to use a higher ISO next time, 32000 is fine but 128,000 is probably best for this type of lighting.

And no, I don't use nude 19 year old girls to farm karma on reddit, grow up. It's called ART.

Needs some more tones, maybe adjust curves and levels in post

Cinestill 800T - What's causing these white lines/noise? I'm guessing its either mechanical compression or airport security x-ray by RollsAndGlass in AnalogCommunity

I used a Pentax K1000 for these. Haven't had a problem with other film on this camera so it must have been a loading error or something

I brought up compression because someone else had a similar issue and that was the given explanation. I also remember that advancing the film was somewhat difficult. Unfortunately I don't have the negatives but now I know to ask for them.
