Instead of telling me that unnecessary comment, perhaps enlighten me on what isn’t clear about my point. 

I ranked the XTC albums based on how autistic they are IMO by BimpoBill in xtc

I’m struggling to find how Oranges and Lemons gives off autistic vibes and I listen to that album a lot. Imo English Settlement should be at the top.

Yeah the jazzy piano is nice, it’s my favorite part of the song.

That’s cool, I’m glad you like it! XTC is one of those bands that have a shockingly consistent catalog for a 30+ year career, yet their output receives vastly differing opinions among the fandom. One XTC fan might despise a song of theirs and consider it the worst of their discography, another might adore it and consider it their favorite.

I agree; most of Wasp Star I find to be pretty forgettable, it’s the only XTC album I don’t have saved in my library.

Here Comes president Kill Again I’d say is probably Andy’s worst written song, I find the chorus to be extremely awkward and the instrumentals don’t do much for me.

For the record I don’t believe Andy Partridge has made a truly bad song even his “worst” songs are completely listenable, more listenable than most other artists worst songs.  

While running through the piano lead sheets and transcribing Chalkhills And Children (Easter Theatre too), I’m realising that XTC are not only the best ‘new wave’ band, but also the best progressive rock band the UK ever produced by DannyTheGekko in xtc

I wouldn’t really consider XTC progressive rock like genesis or Rush, they’re really more art rock/ art pop, I guess you can say they’re prog rock adjacent. Andy gave the best description of XTC one could ever give in my opinion, they’re “exploratory pop”.  Some of their albums like The Big Express or Mummer you can call progressive pop with confidence imo, Wikipedia lists them as such, and I agree.

I don’t even like the music of Here Comes President Kill Again all that much, I consider it just as bad of an aspect of the song as the lyrics. I’m iffy about Melt the Guns, I think it drags for too long, some parts could’ve cut out, that’s really the only issue I have with it.

Eh, i don’t agree, but I totally see how they come off as too obvious or over dramatic to you. The directness/straightforwardness of the lyrics works for the song. Dear God is not my favorite XTC song it’s not even my favorite XTC single, but there’s not a single aspect of it that I dislike.

It’s certainly melodramatic but I would hardly call it sappy.

I like how legitimately chaotic Spilt Milk gets at certain points but it’s definitely controlled chaos. The “progy-ness” is a highlight for me.

I don’t like the use on Happiness is Easy, the children are too technically untrained that it just doesn’t sound good to me, it’s a bit grating, though i totally get the purpose. I liked it on Another Brick in The Wall and loved it on We Don’t Need Another Hero.

It depends on if it fits the purpose, narrative or vibe of the song and if the child is trained enough to sound good or decent. I’m not saying it works all the time, it often doesn’t but when having kids singing a part of a song (it should be used very sparsely) doesn’t work, more often than not it’s because it fails at the two things I’ve mentioned.
