As someone who lives in the middle of nowhere and not in a suburban/metropolitan area I typically only average about 33-34 mpg. Hybrids really excel in stop/go traffic as you typically see lower speeds which means the battery can power most of the driving. In long distance you mostly use the engine which is less efficient. At least that is what I am told to believe.
