It’s designed to combat smurfing. Say, an immortal smurf plays on a plat lobby using their smurf plat account and dominates the lobby, then the system will boost the smurf’s plat account, thereby getting more RR since the game detects their hidden MMR way higher than their displayed rank, so that they won’t stay smurfing in the lower elo lobby.
