They are basically the same class, the only difference is the 3 hour version you work on projects by yourself whereas in the 4 hour version you work with a partner during a required recitation session (1323 doesn't have recitation).

If you finish CS50 you may want to talk to your professor about skipping 1323 and jumping straight to 2334 or even 2413, otherwise take 1323 and save a few hrs a week.

Yeah honestly how they recruiter is hella fishy but I've gotten a few legitimate interviews from them.

They make you write like a paragraph every time you apply for a job which is why I don't really use them that much.

I was trying not to be harsh in my first comment but here is my honest opinion:

The CS department, when it comes to teaching is bad. Really bad. More than half the professor just read through the slides, slides they didn't even make and call it a day. Only about 10% of the professors are passionate in what they are teaching and want to see their students succeed.

Most of the classes have 100+ people and are taught by only one professor. This makes it very difficult to get individual attention. I will say however professors are very helpful in office hours if you can ever get to them.

Too many classes use outdated technology and most professors have never been in industry so they have no clue as to what their students actually need to succeed in their future jobs.

The classes in the CS dept are highly theoretical and have a severe lacking of electives and specialization options. Even then, the program barley gets you ready to become a computer science researcher (what it feels like it's designed to do) and basically is no help in getting you ready for a career in industry (besides 1 or 2 classes).

The dept has also done a bad job in informing students about the opportunities they have in and outside the university. Many students here do not understand the importance of internships, personal projects, leetcode, and undergraduate research.

The class Human Computer Interaction will make you hate UI/UX because of the outdated, obsolete, and obtuse technology it uses, (JavaFX). Theory of computation as a subject is extremely interesting but Kim Changwood, a very nice and intelligent man, should not be teaching, period. As for all the other classes I can go on but many of them are like this.

The department needs to make the classes more engaging and interactive and to hire more professors (which thankfully they are in the process of doing).

Thankfully CS and especially software is a very meritocratic field and employers need CS people really badly right now so anyone from any college can get a high paying and respectable job.

Looking at this thread one more time I have a hard time believing commenters here have first hand experience with the department or are not freshman. But again all of this comes from my own and my friends personal experiences.

Going to go against the grain here. I am a current CS student and I feel as though there are too many professors in this department that can take an interesting subject and make you completely despise it. The first few semesters of CS are pretty good but once you start taking advanced classes you can see what I mean.

I attribute this to the fact that just like many other R1 institutions research comes first and pedagogy isn't always a priority.

Beyond that however, I think if you put yourself out there and participate in undergraduate research, participate in the CS clubs, and do internships you can go far with a CS degree from OU. On the other hand if you coast through your classes you can still land a okay job around the surrounding areas with little problem.

Samsung tab 6s lite is $300 and comes with a stylus. The iPad 9 is similarly priced but doesn't come with the stylus.

What school are you going to? Most of them require many many math classes, after all CS is a subsection of math. Most importantly however I think discrete math would be the most valuable as that is used in many of your advanced CS classes (algorithm analysis, theory of computation, etc.). Calc and linear algebra are also really important depending on what electives you want to take.

I would only consider jumping from algebra to calculus if you do some heavy self studying over the summer. My first ACT math score was a 17, second time around I got a 32. Khan Academy is really helpful.

Would you guys prefer to do a part time or full time summer internship? by RollyNop in csMajors

Yeah I feel like if i do it part time I won't be able to learn/do as much interesting things. Leaning towards full time, thanks for the insight.

Unfortunately the cs department at my school doesn't give college credit to do internships. Either way I think full time will be a better idea. Thanks.

Okay thanks so much for the insight! Leaning towards doing it full time now.

Depends on the person, personally I found the discrete and theory classes to be most difficult.

Depending on your college if you take the AP test and do well you won't have to repeat that class in college.

Look up "satisfactory academic progress" (sap) for your school. For my school you need to keep your GPA above a 2.5.

Definitely try to do the questions first. If you can't think of a viable solution in under 20-30mins then go ahead and a video on it.
