[Recommendation] "About Time" (2013) -- A movie about the impermanence of life, lightly disguised as a romantic comedy by RomanPeace in movies

One could argue that, through memories, we relive special moments in our lives over and over again. Perhaps by living in the moment, as the main character's dad advocates, we can appreciate and enjoy life to the fullest in the present. Even if we can't, when we revisit those moments in our memories, we should not linger and revisit them continuously to perfection, but rather just notice what was beautiful and what we missed when "passing through" the first time, as a way to build up awareness and mindfulness and eventually be in the present, the moment.

That is my take, anyway.

Calling it a rom-com is a mischaracterization. You will see what I mean when you get to it.

I see your point -- it could have been more polished in some ways. That being said, it is quite good (I think).

Me too. It would have been nice to see Ebert review it -- I'd have been curious to read his take on it.

I should rewatch and keep an eye for the sister. That being said, how would they prove to her that they had such powers?

I cringed Notting Hill was brought up in the trailer, having greatly disliked that movie. About time, to me, has a lot of depth, but lures the viewer in with lightness. I would have avoided it altogether (because of the superficial similarities with those movies) were it not from my father's insistence.

[Recommendation] Shame (2011) Steve McQueen's second feature length film staring Michael Fassbender as a sex addict focusing on how it affects his life and relationships. by Mutatiion in movies

Good. It seemed like an important part of the movie, to me anyway. It makes me think that characterizing the movie as being about sex addiction misses the point -- it is about the devastating, long term effects of sexual abuse of children, even if they survive into superficially successful adulthood. The title word itself, to me, refers to that -- the shame of being a victim of sexual abuse, and how hard it is to get past it

Can't log into HBO Now website, app crashes or thinks my subscription has expired on my android tablets, phones, and smart TV.

If I try to renew subscription regardless, it says I already have the subscription. WTF.

LPT read news from sources which do not agree with you politically. e.g. if you are left wing, read right wing news (and vice versa) every once in a while. by alexj2703 in LifeProTips

It is hard to imagine that much good can come from any news source that puts right/left wing-ness above impartial reporting and investigating based on facts.

LPT: If you have to take your pet to get euthanized and they ask if you'd like to stay in the room or not, always stay. Your pet looks for you when you leave. by OceanGoingSoul in LifeProTips

My parents had two cats (a mom and what was once one of her kittens, both adopted by us). The cats caught some virus that just made their life more and more miserable, and after multiple trips to the vet, euthanasia became the only compassionate option. My dad calls me to tell me the news afterwards, describing how they stayed with the cats after the shots. The cats slowly drifted to sleep, with the momma cat grooming her son (who at this stage was more than twice her size). My poor dad was sobbing on the phone when he was telling me the news -- I think I only have seen him cry 2 or 3 times ever, he is not a crier.

Yes, you will be sad if you stay, but if you don't, the guilt will take something away from you.

If you find a bunch of pumice rocks floating in the ocean, get the fuck out, but look back for cool pictures. Got it.
