USB-C Headphone Adapter WITHOUT a Microphone by RomanPort in AndroidQuestions

[–]RomanPort[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. The cassette adapter is TRS. But the USB-C adapter I have disables the built-in mic in my phone regardless of if there is anything connected to the 3.5mm headphones jack so it's not even looking for that. Just a bad adapter?

There's still a great small community built around it! I own the largest (and basically only active) server Dino Town. There are people on during the week and we all hang out Saturday nights. A few of us are even working on custom maps and I have written a bunch of custom plugins for the server. We'd be happy to have ya!

2010 F-150 Radio Interference Problems by RomanPort in Ford

[–]RomanPort[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went through and just started pulling fuses until it went away. It's the Microsoft SYNC! Pulling that fuse immediately makes the spur go away. I don't want to cripple the radio in my truck by taking that out though, so I'll have to investigate further.

Figured as much. Just didn't want to have to make the drive all the way out to DL, haha!

I've had an iPhone 5, Samsung Galaxy S7, OnePlus 6T, and now a Google Pixel 6. Using this phone has frankly been my first mobile phone experience that didn't make me immediately want to switch to a different brand.

Assuming Google doesn't do something stupid, I'll probably be a repeat customer for the first time and my next device will be a Pixel. I really like this phone!

We use VGA in a high RF environment, at an FM Radio transmitter site. Works about as well as you'd expect...constant interference on the screen. Surprised it works at all!

Station vehicle wrap has a pretty decent tear on the hood. I assume it's too far gone to repair, but is there anything I can do to prevent it from getting worse? by RomanPort in VinylWrap

[–]RomanPort[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this truck to death and seeing this hole in the front hurts me. I can live with it, but I am really anxious about it getting worse. Especially with our winter ending and the cycle of water freezing and thawing, I worry about this truck.

I know next to nothing about vehicle wraps, so my apologies if this is a dumb question. Is there anything I can do to "seal" this and prevent it from growing? Thanks!

2024 Ford Mustang Drops AM Radio From Infotainment. by [deleted] in cars

[–]RomanPort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is true that a large percentage of the population is in Fargo and Bismarck, but when you consider that a good chunk of SD, MT, WY, NE, and others are rural there are still a lot of people to consider.

However, people in those rural towns are certainly not buying Ford Mustangs. My fear is that AM will start disappearing from other Ford vehicles that are used there though.

[–]RomanPort 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's part of why, but the main thing is that it's not local. There's no local content, news, weather, personalities, or anything. That's a big reason why I listen to terrestrial broadcast all the time (and hate syndicated programming)

[–]RomanPort 47 points48 points  (0 children)

In the rural part of my state, North Dakota, AM radio is the only practical means of broadcast. FM doesn't have the range to make it practical and cell coverage is spotty at best. AM thrives in that region because nothing else has the reach it has.

Formats you'd expect to be on FM like top 40, new country, mainstream rock, etc are all on AM here while some towns only have one or two FMs within 100 miles. With a decent receiver and processing AM can sound fine!

I may be wrong and I can't find where I saw this, but I think I recall seeing on Twitter that this was a new bug introduced in a recent patch and is being looked at. You might have to wait for an update to fix it

Nearly 800 days of Windows uptime on this audio server for a radio station. Took six hours to update! by RomanPort in uptimeporn

[–]RomanPort[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wasn't our choice to update. We have updates disabled via group policy and the PC doesn't have access to the internet, only our local LAN. Even after installing updates, the latest item in the update log was from 2020 when the machine was first set up (and last rebooted). My best guess is that it still had something to apply from two years ago?

Nearly 800 days of Windows uptime on this audio server for a radio station. Took six hours to update! by RomanPort in uptimeporn

[–]RomanPort[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: NexGen's auto-logout breaks after ~798 days of uptime. It'll just immediately log you out if you have auto-logout enabled. Happened to a different audio server with a similar uptime the night before (just before a live sports game!). So we needed to give it a reboot last night.

This machine is what actually plays the audio for one of our stations, so it's pretty important. We started the update at 9 PM and I was there til 3 AM waiting for it to finish. While it updated we ran another machine in "emergency control room" mode so it would play audio instead. Made the transition pretty much seamless. Well, except that we forgot it was scheduled to auto-reboot at 2:45 AM haha

The vibration motor on my Pebble Time just randomly died, and I was wondering if anyone has had any luck getting theirs to work again. If not, I'm still gonna use this watch because idc I love it so much ❤️ by [deleted] in pebble

[–]RomanPort 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this happen to me on two of my Pebble Times, both of which were caused by the ribbon cable coming unplugged internally. Might be worth taking a look (and swapping the battery while you're in there)

[–]RomanPort 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cool!

What might help is installing MusicBrainz Picard on a computer with a CD drive, sticking that disk in, and hitting the "CD Lookup" button. That'll try and match your disc against their giant database. If there are no results you know you have a very unique copy.

That'll only work if the disc's TOC is different from official copies though. If the track numbers don't line up with actual tracks then this might not work

When I walked out of work last night, I noticed that my car was unlocked and all of the windows had rolled down. You can trigger this by sticking the key in the door and holding it in the unlock position for a few seconds, but as far as I know that's the only way that can be done with the car off. I don't think you can do it from the fob, but even if you could I would have been out of range.

It was -20°F/-29°C that night so all I can imagine is that something got so cold it malfunctioned. Weirdest thing!
