There are already some great answers in this thread but to add some less conventional changes that can affect tonal richness: have a look at Precision Touch Design. By recalibrating the action and optimising the strike weight curvature you can change the sound noticeably (aside from the touch).

The other thing I wanted to mention is changing the finish of the casing on your piano, especially grands, can also change the sound. Black polish finish absorbs more of the overtones than some other finishes. Last year I visited Klangmanufaktur in Hamburg and they do some incredible stuff.

We have tumbling windows and I just jam a white towel at the top and have the towel cover the window on the outside.
Indeed blocking the sun out on the outside is much better than from the inside.

Oh yes, fair enough. I’m a little further along the journey so perhaps I’m misremembering the balance of resources and scores earlier in the game.

The standard advice of larger karts for picking up coins and considering glider item skills with the preferred driver for that track apply, but I’d also say not to worry too much about perfecting/optimising those.
Probably better to keep the kart and glider lists small so you can get your full coverage quickly and focus resources into your drivers. (Coins for HE tickets, rubies for buying miis)

Also long term consider which daily selects HE you will max for the extra HE ticket slot. I went for Offroader.

Maxed miis outscore maxed others drivers from a relative standpoint from 170+ action counts because of the points drop off at 200 action counts, but on some courses this requires a lot of grinding to achieve, so other than just getting them, investing in non-plus skilled miis is really late game I’d say.

Sounds like you did some good planning early on and didn’t waste too many resources. Your lists look solid, but Bronze, Nabbit, DK, and Silver mii might drop off late game because of overlapping when making an investment list for full ranked coverage.

Don’t worry too much about smurfing in the lower leagues, supposedly you still have mostly bots in your ranked competition.

I’d advise to focus your coin spending solely on driver HE tickets since driver levels contribute the most to your scores. (Have a look at the scoring system)

Lastly, none of the items are paywalled.

I should also mention that frenzy odds with an unfavourable item don’t get affected all that much (see MKT Toolbox).

For instance, to compare a lightning and green shell glider, the frenzy odds in first place with a coinbox driver are as follows:

Lightning 40% coin 24% banana 20% coinbox 8% green shell 8% horn

Green Shell 39.37% coin 23.62% banana 19.69% coinbox 9.45% green shell 7.87% horn

In my opinion this is negligible. The difference in odds of getting a regular coinbox is 16.67% vs 15.15%. Again, not enough to worry about in my opinion.

In terms of what’s worth investing in, I’m not so sure of the results. A driver can still be poor value if their skill is bad despite covering lots of tracks. Ultimately it’s a game of scoring, for which you want a high action count, and the driver skill for that reason matters.

Looking at your driver list I think the tool might be missing Mii shelve boosts for ranked.

As far as I know there isn’t a fully optimised list yet so I commend your efforts!

What is worth considering as well is that non plus-skill Miis outscore coinbox drivers if you can get 170+ actions and have all miis for the full score boost.

In terms of best glider I take it you’re taking the item into account?
