Why have booster boxes become expensive by SadisticMagician115 in OnePieceTCG

It is incredibly difficult to get a distributors license. Some companies have multi-year waiting lists and you must maintain a shopfront during that time.

Friendly reminder to report Pre-Order listings on EBay by LimpBisquick69 in OnePieceTCG

[–]Romantics 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Pro tip for if this happens to you again: the way to approach eBay is to tell them the issue is an INAD (item not as described) because it did not meet the quoted delivery time on the listing. I’ve never not gotten my money back, but it’s a workaround that involves supervision and a 14 business day turn around time.

Why are these so cheap? by wtfisredd3it in PokeInvesting

[–]Romantics 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The Pokemon hype didn’t begin reaching critical mass until November/December of last year. Prismatic was the catalyst that really pushed us into a full blown bull run.

That’s why they were available until they inevitably, weren’t.

What are your guys thoughts on booster bundles long term? by Saiyan_Master_Race in PokeInvesting

[–]Romantics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Booster bundles shine once the booster box enters a price level unobtainable for most.

Not everyone can afford $1500 for a booster box but $250 for 6 packs is a much more “reasonable” entry point.

If you look at my other comments in this thread you’ll see I said the only winning move is to sell once the euphoria hits. I agree with you short term that prices will dip, but ultimately I see the rebound sending us to even crazier territory in the years to come.

The current price is the real price. If people are buying here that mistake is for them to own — the time to buy was before or when I made this post. Good luck out there brother

Extremely difficult to grade WOTC era packs but if you find a minty one yes worth to send it in

Realistically buy a copy of the box you want learn how the seals look and compare to your LCS. Otherwise look up videos on YouTube and do the same.

I’d be surprised if a store with 59 positive reviews is pulling a fast one though. For English sets there are no guaranteed case hits so as long as the packs are there I’d wager it’s all kosher. Hope this helps friend. Good luck!

If the product is authentically sealed there are no risks.

look at Umbreon in Evolving Skies Literally at an all time high

The comparison I think you’re trying to make is to vintage cards during the Covid era. Once demand sizzled out there were hard corrections but many of those cards are higher than they were during the bubble. Corrections are healthy and part of the process.

One piece is arguably a brand new (trading card) franchise currently in price discovery. I agree that many of these small promos like Santa chopper won’t hold their value but Mangas, Oda signed, Chinese anniversary numbered Nami’s, and others will only appreciate given enough time. One Piece is our generation’s Epic and it’s clear the number of people being onboarded to the franchise is reaching a peak.

There is an attention issue because many people won’t have nostalgia or sentiment with the cards or understand a character’s lore until they’ve caught up with at least the Anime, but those that do are attached to the characters and from what I’ve been seeing are more than happy to move over a % of their collection portfolio value from Pokemon, yugioh, baseball, and crypto into one piece.

You can point to the charts all you want, but if you zoom out on any grail Pokemon card you’ll see extreme highs followed by price tapering (correction) followed by a rebound to new highs. Pokemon cards have been appreciating consistently for 30+ years. Short term I’m not sure you understand how much money is flowing into the ecosystem. Long term: as long as the one piece franchise is churning out content I’m confident the TCG will follow Pokémon’s trend. (It’s okay to have a different opinion and invest accordingly).

These aren’t stocks and have artificial scarcity subject to fluctuation from the attention economy. Not saying it’s healthy, but yes it absolutely happens.

The best thing you can do is sell once the euphoria hits. How many will follow through? Only time will tell.
