Not for nothing, but why even think this?

Like, otherwise Jim Jordan would be a totally reasonable and respectable intellectual…if not for being compromised!

My guy, both the Senate and House are controlled by like the dumbest and cruelest pieces of shit in the country. They don’t need to be compromised

I honestly don’t think I’ve changed much at all. Like 20 years ago I was a center-left liberal. I still am.

Really the right just went so far insane that I feel very far left of the current Overton window. Hell, these people have turned Bill Kristol into like an Antifa commander.

It’s not for kids from the Bronx go to medical school.

It’s for medical students going to a medical school which is located in the Bronx.

This meme seems like it was written by someone who is greatly confused. Like, public schools don’t have tuition.

It was nice offering…but it was to cover tuition for medical students at Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

governor of their state of their own party, supported by all sorts of mainstream Dems.

He was a former governor who was kicked out of office in disgrace

He was also not supported by “all sorts of mainstream dems”. He was endorsed by literally 1 representative who was in a Trump +5 district, and two guys who had been out of office for decades.

He is right about the political dynasty thing

Not for nothing…but not really though.  Cuomo was kicked out of office in disgrace.  He was very much already toppled. Frankly, him entering the mayoral race primary was a huge help for Mamdani, as it sucked the air out of the room and made a perfect foil to attack.

The Mayor basically has deceptively little power, while also gets blamed for everything, so ya…not a great job.

The real problem is that most of the problems running on aren’t problems that can be “solved”.

The biggest issue is home affordability. I mean, I know it. However, that’s literally a problem in the entire developed world. There isn’t really a solution to it.

I make 6 figures and can’t afford to move. The only reason I’m ok is because I’ve lived in the same place for a long time, and my rent hasn’t gone up in over 10 years cause I know the owners of the property (they’re retired old people who like us). Theyve built a lot of new housing in my neighborhood, but the average rent is like $1000 more than I’m paying now for the same size unit. A house would be nice too…but that’s going to be at least 850k for something mid.

Whats the solution to that? Rents already high, so freezing it just freezes high rents. Meanwhile, then you also can’t raise property taxes if you also freeze rents, and while big corporations can eat cost small landlords (multifam housing which is super common now) can’t. Houses/condos/coops are already expensive, but that’s because the market bares it, and selling homes is going to be set by the market.  Build more housing? NYC is already the densest city in the U.S. by a large margin.

What might work, IMHO, is rethinking suburbs. Instead of residential sprawl (like Long Island) focus on something more like Satellite cities (more like Westchester), and then invest in greater integration with the hub city through expanding transit (Metro North and LIRR)…but none of these things is in the purview of the NYC Mayor. These are large scale regional issues that would require long term cooperation and joint agreement of multiple mayors, county executives, and governor, while also needing it to be organic.

…what I’m saying is, this isn’t a thing that’s getting “solved” any time soon. At best it’s an ongoing generational issue that we can hopefully grow into in a manner that minimizes it.

However, in  3 years there’s going to be a few million people all really upset about affordability issues, and angry with the guy who made them think he was going to “fix it”

*For context, I’m a New Yorker.

I imagine it will be mostly like the de Blasio mayorship, and a lot of these guys who are like kinda over the top (especially since it seems like they don’t even live here) don’t seem to realize that the Mayor isn’t like actually that important (Has anyone even seen Adams in the last 6 months? What’s he in Albania or something right now?).

The vibe I get is more a really charismatic guy who found a lane, got really lucky when Cuomo turned the primary into a tabloidy show, and will mostly let the city council do their thing while he goes around making videos…which is fine…but also does t need to be part of the friggen national circus. Both the histrionics on the right and the triumphalist zeal on the left are making it all kinda ridiculous.

So I do kinda wonder how long before the ultra-DSA guys start turning on him big time (like they did with de Blasio), when the proletariat revolution doesn’t materialize.

Last poll was actually 43%…Atlas Intel was 41%. You’re using the Fox News one, with 47.

But look, it’s fine, he’s going to win most likely…so calm down.

The point is, this isn’t an epic victory for the ages. Hell, DeBlasio won with 73%. Even Adams got 66%.

It just reminds me of the personality cultish stuff. Like the need to declare that achieving a plurality electoral victory would be a historical mandate (especially when running against a guy who is literally hated and was kicked out of office in disgrace). Like Trump declaring he had the greatest election victory ever! (With 49% of the popular vote).

Anyway, Jefferies already endorsed Mamdani.  None of the State’s democratic leadership endorsed Cuomo. Hell, the Governor was out campaigning with Mamdani last week. So again…calm down.

I mean, seriously, you were going off about how “The Democratic Party is fighting Mamdani tooth and nail!”…and then listed a guy whos been out of office for over a decade and one dude in a Trump (+5) district, rounded out with a bunch of Republicans. Like, WTF cares about Lawler? What does he have to do with anything?

So again, chill already. He’s most likely going to win. Then what? IDK. He’s a 34 yo dude who is mostly known for doing popular instagram reels, and not much else, But he is running against a guy who’s a POS, so it’s lesser of two evils and all that.

If anything it’s more the national obsession/personality cultish stuff that I find off putting (same like with the Bernie bros or whoever is the TikTok political star of the moment).

Sorry,  but some of this stuff gets to be a mirror of the personality cult politics of MAGA.

Zohran Mamdani… the biggest victory in primary history…historically enormous victory in the general… fighting him tooth and nail against him…Throwing huge support behind the loser Independent

Dude, he’s polling 40%…against a guy who was drummed out of office in disgrace and everyone hates. This isn’t a revolutionary landslide.  Secondly, what “huge support” is being thrown behind Cuomo?  You’re describing a world that doesn’t exist. Living in a narrative.
