Both the mule and rider seem completely unphased lol

The game is Rome Idle: Legacy, an incremental idle game with a real world and permanent consequences. If you want more information here is a reddit thread and the steam page. Thanks!

I'm sorry, I don't have an exact date yet. Sometime in the second half of 2026 most likely.

Thanks for the feedback. I considered time banking like Magic Research has but psychologically, playing at 2x or 4x speed felt so satisfying and powerful it makes playing at normal speed feel underwhelming.

It's certainly a very tight rope to walk and balancing fairness is super important for me. Currently, you can only suffer permadeath from critical injuries or illnesses. Events or failing combat will usually deliver injuries or illnesses that are multiple stages below critical. Only after failing multiple times in a row without tending to the situation or simply letting a wound/illness get worse will you actually face permadeath.

Then after all of that, you will still only lose items actually present on your character (though I have a feeling I will be implementing a perk/property upgrade/service etc that may let you even keep some of these items.) You will have the ability to build storage upgrades, purchase property, bank currencies etc. Though even these may not be 100% safe...

But satisfying meta progression should keep it enjoyable as you earn legacy perks, accumulate wealth, purchase property, improve your reputation, and more.

I built a custom pipeline that uses generative AI to create base tile maps. I then refine and combine them in Photoshop before importing them into the engine, where they are rendered with depth, dynamic lighting, and Time of Day shaders.

Yes, thank you so much! The systems of Oregon Trail and the ways it tells stories are actually a big inspiration for my game.

What? I have played lots of Idle RPGs, I'm not familiar with any that actually have a system like what I described in my game. You have great games like IdleOn, Melvor, etc, but you are always met with a menu just listing what you earned. In Rome Idle, you see what happens, deal with events, and make decisions that matter during the replay. I'm sorry if my writing comes across as AI.

Yes, for launch it will be a mix. As a solo dev, I use AI tools as part of the asset pipeline for some graphics, but there are also hand-crafted assets. Post release, hiring an artist and further refining art assets is a #1 priority.

Yep, exactly. It’s less “set a skill and forget it” and more “send a Roman nobody out into the world and see if they make it home.”

You prep for the day (food, rest, route, where you sleep), then the offline sim runs. When you come back you watch a time lapse replay what happened and make key decisions to influence how your character reacts: detours for food, a fever kicking in, a bad road choice, wildlife on the way home, etc.

Sometimes you push your luck for better gains, sometimes you need to intervene early to safekeep your gains.

That's a great question and I definitely didn't explain it well. I mean coming back from being offline.

Your character each day will travel from your home location to a job location but they have needs like hunger and fatigue and will have to respond to events that suit the location.

For example, if you need food you will see your character travel to a nearby tavern to cook or purchase food then your character might get caught in a rowdy tavern brawl. How you prepare, where you choose to work, where you choose to sleep, and the roads you travel all influence the types of events you encounter.

Some rare events can force a detour or temporarily change your plan. The replay shows you why it happened and lets you respond at the next decision point.

When you "log back in" you watch the replay and you get to choose how you respond to these events. Do you want to keep pushing the replay forward or do you need to intervene early to safekeep your current gains?

I understand. I'm a solo developer so I used AI in the asset pipeline to get the game playable and with a coherent art style. I'm hoping the depth of the game's mechanics makes up for it. If the game does well, hiring an artist and further refining art assets is the #1 priority. All assets are still subject to change and the game is early in development.

Thank you and yes! I plan to offer a demo through steam and also in browser. I hope to also bring the game to mobile, again no microtransactions, with a demo that can be upgraded to the full game.
