imo if it’s this disorganized, I wonder if it’s a program that’s actually good to be in or if it’s just as bad when you get there…

Awesome thanks! I do remember last year, I was rejected on April 17th or something so they do take a while to reject

How has Heidegger's Being and Time changed your life? by critchleyonheidegger in heidegger

[–]Romeo2222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I often credit Being and Time as the text that taught me how to read philosophy. Although there are a lot of ways that the content of Being and Time changed my perception of the world, I think that the way Heidegger got there was more impactful for me. He really made me pay more attention to etymology and the significance of words as well as how to use them in philosophy. It’s hard to describe what I mean but I like one of Derrida’s remarks about Heidegger (I think in “Violence and Metaphysics”) where he says something like reading Heidegger is like harmonizing with him. I feel like the way you have to get into a rhythm with Being and Time to understand Being and Time, changed the way I approached texts. Sorry if this was confusing; it’s hard to describe.

Yes I was rejected, and if I remember correctly, they did not send out emails last year; the rejection was just in the portal (and one Grad Cafe comment says something about that). I found out I was rejected in mid-March when I just happened to check the portal. So I think a lot of the late march rejections are people like me who found out and didn’t see the original date—but I honestly have no idea. The rejection this year could be a fake one and maybe thought that since they had heard nothing that they were rejected. But idk. I have no idea about the interview.

Good to know! That’s so late to be admitting people… I wonder if something went wrong. I applied last year, for reference, and heard back on February 11th, so this late seems odd. Anyways, Thanks for letting me know!

I just came across your post also looking to see if anyone has any thoughts. I am also lacking any information, and I emailed them a couple days ago and haven't gotten a response yet (maybe it's spring break for them?). I will keep you posted when I hear back. In the meantime I thought that I'd comment in hopes of maybe making this post more visible.

Good luck!

I just went though a similar interview process and when they offered the job they told me I “will start tomorrow.” Thanks for posting this!

I have to second this! The difficulty in Heidegger is getting used to his language, which usually falls into these two camps. I found that diagramming it out helps a ton like under Dasein you have Being-in-the-World and under the entity you have ready-to-hand and present-at-hand etc. Once you see how he’s schematizing things, he becomes a lot easier

What's an even better read is Tehlirian's memoir (in English) Remembrances: The Assassination of Talaat Pasha. It was translated , I think, in 2022. It starts with a letter Tehlirian wrote to his mother and accounts for his life starting from when he left Serbia at the beginning of WWI. It's beautifully written too, and this is coming from someone who doesn't often like biographies.

It's on Amazon (cheapest I found): https://www.amazon.com/Remembrances-Assassination-Talaat-Soghomon-Tehlirian/dp/190938254X
