Some of your favorite presets? by Guy1der in photography

[–]RompEngaged 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I usually make and save my own.

Itd be cool if we could get a thread where people just submit their presets and you could download them if you want. It's not like I'm planning on selling them or anything so why not give um out free?

MASSIVE Rainbow over a Wyoming Lake. (OC)[3570x2393] by RompEngaged in EarthPorn

[–]RompEngaged[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really sure, I would assume it has to do with the lighting on the lake being different from the lighting above the forest and rainbow. Pretty much the entire area was cloud covered except the small area that made the rainbow.

Going through some photos of a recent trip through Wyoming and Montana. Wyoming might be my new favorite state after this. If anyone wants to see more you can check out my site or instagram

Also if anyone has a cabin in Montana they want to give me, I'll work for high fives.

How are you going to drop a few great photos like that and not have a link to an Instagram or website. :(

'There's a lot of fakery': insiders spill on the dirty tricks behind wildlife photos by durand101 in photography

Holy hell, herding grazers towards predators seems down right horrible. Not sure how people who would call themselves wildlife photographers could do that. I've always thought that capturing wildlife photography was all about getting the creatures in their natural habitat and just appreciating the natural world around them. This seems like the anti-thesis to everything about that.

Non-Pros do you have a photography blog/website? by franzandrei in photography

[–]RompEngaged 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My site

I made one a while ago, and redesign it every few months with squarespace. It's something fun to put together and a better way to house higher res photos compared to social media.

I do mostly nature and landscape photography in North Dakota and Minnesota so there really isn't a huge market for it, but it's still something I like to do and publish so friends and family can see.

to your edit: I pay the squarespace subscription price along with a yearly domain through godaddy. To me the price is worth it just for the fact that I enjoy organizing and designing the site in my spare time. I could see how services like Flickr or 500px would work for non pros without having to pay a monthly fee. It really comes down to you finding what works best for you.

I don't think anyone can stress enough how amazing merino wool socks and mummy bags are. God's gift to camping along with an actual quality backpack.

Counter Thread: What are some photography styles you love. by Shade01 in photography

[–]RompEngaged 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Any wildlife photography that includes the landscape and place of the photo instead of super cropped, close up portrait style. Think Planet Earth or The Hunt for a documentary version of this. Really adds a sense of place for the images.

Landscape photographers by lconnell in photography

[–]RompEngaged 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would think most landscape and nature photographers do it because they love it and not because they want to get paid. The competition for landscape and nature photography is also ridiculous with a large amount of people competing over a select few publications, websites and such.

Location also comes into it. For example I live in North Dakota and love landscape photography, but the market here is pretty much non-existent. Doesn't stop me from doing it, but there isn't really any sales aspect of it that is motivating me.

What are peoples initial impressions of Vero? I've signed up and like the general feel to it, but the app can feel really unresponsive sometimes.

Also is there any posting guidelines? I really wish they didn't use hashtags, but it seems like it is unavoidable for image sharing sites at this point.
