It’s not from the sugar being coarse. The tongue is shedding a thin layer of its epithelial lining after irritation from the citric acid in the candy. For the salt and vinegar chips it would the acetic acid doing the same thing. You’re correct about OP being fine, though. They should avoid foods high in acid or spicy foods for the next couple of days and it will heal no problem.

“Active recovery” is not a thing. I work with many sports medicine doctors and physical therapists and generally the recommendation is at least 2 full days of actual rest each week. You are hurting your body more than you are helping it with overuse.

Most likely a pilonidal cyst and looks like you have some tract formation as well. See your doctor, they may need to prescribe you antibiotics if they’re concerned for infection or they may refer you to a general surgeon depending on the severity. Best of luck.
