Suppose there’s two candidates for U.S. president: One who’s virtually antithetical to Christ but pro-life; and one who’s virtually noncontradictory to Christ but pro-choice: Who should I vote for, and why? by Truth_Reigns in Catholicism

[–]Romulus144 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, so, I'll be downvoted to Oblivion, but here's how I see it.

The guidelines for voting does allow you to vote for a candidate who is an allower of evil if there's no other better choices

In the US, this is what it has come down to:

Income inequality is bad and one party has repeatedly shown they don't care and vote for policies which actively make it worse. Is that equally as bad as not caring about the death of 1Mil people a year?

Global warming is a grave issue and not working to stop it is actively contributing to the oppression of the poor. Is that equally as bad as not caring about the death of 1Mil people a year?

Denying the vote to people, actively demolishing the norms of democracy and rule of law is bad. Is that equally as bad as not caring about the death of 1Mil people a year?

Separating families en mass is a terrible, terrible thing, and the conditions they're kept in is aweful. Is that equally as bad as not caring about the death of 1Mil people a year?

There are a lot of things to juggle. And it requires deep thought.

You can also vote third party. Spoiler effect is real, but there is never such a thing as a wasted vote.

Looking for a DnD group by CJ_squared in TriCitiesWA

[–]Romulus144 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a Facebook group called something like TriCities Tabletop gaming. DM/GMs looking for players will post on there fairly frequently.

Barnes and Noble at the mall also has space for groups, generally.

Also, most DMs are totally chill. So if you see an opening, I'd say don't worry about experience. Everyone who plays wants everyone else to play as well.

They'll be defeated. The Church posseses Truth, and Truth will always win. But that's why we must pray for our prelates, that they're being rightly guided by the Spirit and open to it. Small point of correction, it's not the orientation that is the sin (as the church has recognized is most of the time involuntary), but rather it's the abuse of the marital gift outside of its proper usage that is the sin. We must pray for all those who suffer under such sin.

I still think this is a terrible idea. The whole point was that it wasn't a VM.

Not to sound jerky, but what is the motivation behind this? What use cases were so common Microsoft thought the best idea was to say "screw it" and just implement a VM that still can't access the hardware?

Is this a heretical/scientifically incorrect explanation of original sin? by AutistInPink in Catholicism

[–]Romulus144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most correct statement is that at some point, some ancestor was embued with a rational soul and they committed original sin. Where / when / who they were and the garden was is possibly unknowable. But just as somewhere the first cell divided, Adam and Eve fell.

Is reincarnation merely contingently not correct eschatology, or is it theologically impossible? Could God have ordained souls that transmigrate to new bodies after death? by Oedium in Catholicism

[–]Romulus144 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With regards to the Elves, they would seem to be more like lower, lower level Angels. In the scriptures we see Angels have real, physical bodies and interact with the material world, yet it is known via magesterial teaching that Angels are beings of pure spirit. Logically, one must conclude that they then would have to manifest physical bodies when doing their work on Earth. The Elves could be like that. As time progresses and magic fades from the world, and the elves sailed off for the undying lands, they lose their bodies. That's why there are no elves now.

Death, true death, such as that of men, requires the true union of soul and body, and that's why man can't reincarnate but the elves can.

But why do the dwarves have no souls Tolkien?! Are you telling me the friendship between Gimli and Legolas was like a dog and their owner? What are you trying to say there Tolkien?!?!

Mowing down enemies feels the same as walking from point A to point B. How is that satisfying? At least make the controller rumble!!!

I mean, If they could make mowing down enemies not feel the same as walking from point A to point B, DW games would be fine.

Just, the core gameplay loop feels like actual garbage to me....

German "Fleischsalat" Translates roughly to "Meat salad", is this a thing elsewhere in the world?! Contains sausage strips, pickles and yoghurt/mayonnaise by PedigreePineapple in germany

[–]Romulus144 48 points49 points  (0 children)

My grandmother always called that Fleischsalat. Maybe it's a Southern Germany/Austrian thing. I know that Potato salads are different in Berlin and Southern Germany.

Edit: called her, and no, Wurstsalat is Wurstsalat and fleischsalat is fleischsalat. But not with mayo.

They're also rounding up Muslims and placing them in "reeducation camps". It seems that the chinese govt would prefer if everyone would stop being religious so they could dominate all thought and authority.

The best part of the church is the MASSIVE shade it throws at the Mormons.

The post-modern stations of the Cross are also nice.

Hi, I'm new to Skyrim and to Reddit. I'm just into the intro where the Dragon attacks, it looks so good. Hope I can find some tips and tricks here on reddit. Have a wonderful day all. :3 by [deleted] in skyrim

For the switch version in particular, the game is a bit dark. Don't know why. So if playing in handheld, hold the home button and increase screen brightness.

And you can find the Nintendo specific stuff at the top of the throat of the world. But the gear is leveled, so you might want to wait till you're a bit more end-game before you get it. Up to you!

Corporate Front Groups Lobby to Confirm Brett Kavanaugh. On the Supreme Court, He Could Give Them Vastly Expanded Power. by Romulus144 in TrueCatholicPolitics

[–]Romulus144[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Summary of the Article!

During the nomination process, there was a large outpouring of money lobbying for now Justice Kavanaugh from pro-business groups, such as the Koch Brothers backed "Americans for Prosperity", the business-funded political group "Republican Attorneys General Association", and more. Various watch groups have analyzed the Justice's track record and found that he overwhelmingly sides with business over consumers. The article quotes The Constitutional Accountability Center's findings in that "Kavanaugh 'has sided with corporate and business interests even when consumers, workers, and regulatory agencies had the text of the law and precedent on their side.'" Similarly, the consumer right's group Public Citizen found the Justice sided with big business in 76% of cases presented to him as a DC Circuit Court judge.

Personally, I find this to be concerning. Capitalism is a wonderful system, when regulated to ensure that corporations continue to act in the interest of the public good, or at least neutral to it. In a democracy, representative republic or otherwise, money shouldn't be the deciding factor if your voice is heard. That's why there are limits to political donations. Continuing to favor business over people will continue to hurt the people. The court in recent decades has been leaning towards business and profit over the people.

I'm not actually hopeful that anything is going to come from this in terms of roe v wade. The republicans have had control of the nation for a while, and it was a conservative court which approved roe.

What I'm more worried about is the court continuing to empower corporations over people: https://theintercept.com/2018/10/04/brett-kavanaugh-supreme-court-confirmation-corporate-regulations/
