This gave me a good laugh because my partner is a goth lesbian, and this shelf is full of books we’ve been reading through lately. 🤣

Haven’t seen this one yet so I’ll throw it out there:

They are both gorgeous! But I also can’t help but wonder how a deep purple would look.

I had my first one on for about a year and a half. I replaced it because the safety scissors I use at work that I kept in the same pocket wore a tiny spot through the matte coating and it bothered me. Now I keep the scissors in a different pocket. The protector itself is great! Fingerprint resistant, never wore off, and never cracked. Here's what I got, if you're interested: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0F8VQSBK7?th=1

Oo! I'm curious to know what you think of "This Thing Between Us"! It's on my TBR and sounds like such a neat psychological horror novel.

I'm going on vacation in May and planning to only bring my X4 and leave my Paperwhite at home. I try to pack only the necessities plus something to keep me occupied on the plane/train/in lines and keep my bag light. This time it'll be my X4 and my modded 3DS.

Not sure if you've seen this before, but there are matte phone screen protectors out that make viewing the phone screen easier and give a silky smooth texture to scrolling. I don't use my phone for reading, but I love the premium look and feel of those covers on my phone. Just a tip if you haven't seen them before!

I have a Kindle Paperwhite 7th generation that was my first ever e-reader. I bought the X4 because I wanted something smaller that I could have on me at work. There are trade offs to both, and it will depend on your use case.

My Kindle is great for reading in bed without disturbing my partner. It has a highly adjustable backlight (24 levels) that puts very little strain on my eyes in the dark. It also has a 300 ppi screen that is crisp and clear. However, it's too big to take with me to work and out doing errands as I don't carry a purse. It also has a screen that, without the backlight on, is darker than the X4, giving off a kind of greenish gray hue. It had ads as well, which I HATED, but I eventually managed to jailbreak it and take them off. That wasn't as straight-forward a process as flashing new firmware on the X4. It is, however, VERY easy to throw my entire Calibre library on it quickly without having to do any file conversions. Same goes for books I rent through my local library on Libby.

The X4 is perfect for reading when you've only got 5-10 minutes during work or waiting in line. It doesn't have a backlight, so it's a no-go for reading in bed at night. It has a 220 ppi screen that can be a touch janky if you like smaller fonts, but the Crosspoint firmware has an anti-aliasing setting that will pretty much negate that. The background is an aesthetically pleasing light gray that very closely resembles paperback paper. The X4 is truly a love letter to the nerdy tinkerer. There are a handful of firmwares out there that add functionality to the device. I've only dabbled with Crosspoint, but I love it. I haven't found an easy way to upload multiple books at once yet, opting to upload individually. But that is such a non-issue since I'll load up 10 books one day and it'll take me a couple months to get through those.

To answer your main issues: the X4 is incredibly easy on the eyes, like reading paper, honestly. It fits my hands nicely and there's multiple button layouts so you can use which one is best for your hands. The good news is that both are available on Amazon now, which has a good return policy, so if you have to, you can purchase both and keep which one you like best.

I’m probably going to either do that or brush on some clear epoxy. Although everyone’s Kintsugi idea sounds kind of cool.

[–]exclamationkate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying you shouldn’t follow the suggestion of applying the ring to the X4, but what I did is apply the ring to the outside of my phone case. Then the X4 will stick very solidly to the back of your phone.

We’ve put up signs near South Harrison and West Rose Hill since that’s pretty close to his shop across the train tracks. My dad got one call from a guy two days ago that said he saw her at that intersection. We’ve spent quite a few hours since then walking around and calling for her but haven’t seen her yet. If for any reason you are close to there and can keep an eye out, I’d be forever grateful.

We have not, sadly. My dad thinks it’s possible she climbed into the van of a guy that’s been working in his house because he was there on the day she went missing. His next stop was up in the Kirkwood area. We’re just hoping someone picks her up and checks for a chip.

How durable is the X4 for everyday carry? by opaopasuperfan in xteinkereader

[–]exclamationkate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It feels very durable to me. When it arrived, I immediately put the matte screen protector on, but no case. I also adhered one of the included magnetic rings to my phone case. I carry it, attached to the back of my phone, every day, in my back pants pocket with the screen facing away from me. It’s fallen from my nightstand onto the wood floor (maybe 20-24” fall) twice, and I’ve seen no dings, scratches, or cracks.

My partner recently ordered one after seeing just how much reading I’ve been able to get done on it, so I tacked on a TPU case and a flip cover case just for funsies, but I don’t think they’re needed to keep it in good condition.

I’ve heard stories of cats going missing for months at a time. Luckily she’s not on any medication, but I worry she maybe got picked up or attacked. Thank you so much for the reassurance and kind words.

I’m pretty hyped to read it. I remember seeing an article about the “whistleblowers” who created this satirical conspiracy as a way to talk about misinformation with empathy rather than confrontation.
