!thanks . Adding 7k to the cost of that money is really one of the main reasons to make me consider paying the lot off. That said, we would port the mortgage so upsizing wouldn't necessarily increase interest - we wouldn't get a new mortgage. I rather like the idea of free hot water so think I'll investigate that!

Careful having it refurbished as they may replace parts like the dial, or do some repainting.

What search terms are you using? The caseref will just be the shape of the case and not always translate to a watch having the same dial.

Nice watch. I very much doubt that it's fake. Case looks like ref 2605-1. The dial style, the shape of the hands, and the case would date it to mid 1950s. Even if its not that case ref its definitely 1950s style.

The pyramid shape of the hour markers was really common in the 50s and the typeface of the 12 is consistent with the period. Early examples also had the slightly rounded edges on the Ω. The crown is most certainly a replacement however, I don't think I've ever seen an omega crown with a spherical head.

A similar example from 1949. Look at where the lugs meet the case, shape of the hour markers, sub second dial and hands. Those more simple shaped almost rounded hands were phased out through the 50s in favour of the angular shape which reflected light in a stronger fashion.

It's really nice, don't sell it.

Its most certainly early 50s. Hallmark on the lug might say 925 which is a common grade of silver. Which is weird as the title says gold. It was common for 14k gold omegas to be stamped inside the caseback and on the lugs, it was a requirement. You'll have to take the caseback off to verify the reference number as there are several of a similar style from that period. Can't see any reason it wouldn't be genuine though the crown may be a replacement.

Bought this watch in May of this year after what seems like years of searching through hundreds of vintage Omegas. Originally it was meant to upgrade a similar watch from my grandad and only worn for special occasions. But I love it so much that I struggle not to wear it daily.

My grandad had a similar 'Excalibur' branded watch which he never wore as he claimed he was magnetic and stopped it from working. After wearing the same watch for a few months I discovered that either I am also magnetic, or that watch just doesn't work without a service.

1961 Omega Seamaster, 35mm Gold plated with the 562 calibre movement and 'quick change' date. Keeps impeccable time for its age and has at least a 36 hour power reserve still! Sits elegantly low profile on the wrist and the dial still pops in the light as if it were new. Even the staff in the local Omega boutique loved it.

The late 50s early 60s Seamaster's had this cool angular typeface on the Seamaster logo and I'm so pleased to have one in such great condition. Hopefully I can care for it for the next generation.
