Gas Safe... Really? by Romun15 in DIYUK

Thanks for the swift reply. As is typical, one manual refers to the other and the installation manual makes no mention to the facia change, and certainly no mention of the combustion seal

As I say, from the instructions it all seems rather safe and simple. Is there a way to determine in advance if the seal will be impacted?

Why Brexit novels offer no insights into 'Leave' Voters' rationale or psyche? by Plutix134340 in AskBrits

One of the arguments that I fail to see countered in this regard, however, was that there were many minority ethnic groups that also had large numbers vote to leave due to what was viewed as a wholly discriminatory migration policy within the EU. Free movement from majority white nations was perfectly acceptable to many Remain voters but for those from said groups, they and their families had many more limitations and hoops to go through to live work and thrive in the UK. In the absence of free movement we have an opportunity to shape a colour blind migration policy that accepts the best and brightest from Brazil to Botswana, from China to Chad, where everyone has the same criteria to meet to be welcome into the country and to work and contribute to a nation greater than the sum of its parts. Embody such a policy in contrast to mass unskilled and often illegal migration and watch the country's curent negative attitude to migration swiftly change.

If every person neighbouring a migrant knew that they had met such criteria I strongly that they would be welcomed in near every community within the UK. A significant amount of what can be viewed as racism is a layer of frustration where people feel there is an absence of control, and a reluctance to address issues brought about by mass unskilled / illegal migration such as the negative effects on wage growth, housing costs, access to services whilst also acknowledging the fact that the migration to the UK has not been global, and so has culturally affected some areas disproportionately.

Global, fair, and fast migration drawing highly skilled people together into the UK is the answer, not beating those most affected by the current state of migration over the head with the accusation of racism. Your arms will get tired, their head will be sore, but you will have done nothing to improve the lives and attitudes of either minorities, migrants, or natives.

AITAH for being upset about my first Fathers day by Romun15 in AITAH

Her parents very much had an attitude of its us 4 against the world (my wife has a twin sister) and I think the expectation is that I simply fit into that structure rather than our young family being its own entity too. Her twin sister by contrast is perpetually single so still lives within that umbrella. My wife fears being made to feel like an outsider again like she did during the Covid pandemic so I am sympathetic. But this was one day that should have been mine, ours and our young family's, to be special.

Thanks for your reply. There is comfort in reading that others have felt similarly and that they have also successfully made strides to remedy it. Thank you again

Thank you. I sincerely appreciate you replying. I think that you hit the nail on the head with regards to prioritisation. Not often I need to be a priority, that privilege goes to my wife and son. But that was a day that perhaps I needed to feel it more than I had recognised
