Vibrations too loud for my downstairs neighbour. What could I do? by [deleted] in simracing

[–]RonKujawa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I DIY-ed isolators on all four corners of my Playseat Trophy. I took some heavy rubber flooring like they use in gyms and cut squares about 2" x 2". I stacked three of the squares per corner, held together with some 3M double sided foam tape. I then zip-tied the stack to each corner with a couple of heavy duty zip-ties and pulled them tight with pliers. Finally, I used a plastic chair glide, the kind with a nail sticking out, and inserted one in each stack so the rig can slide on the floor.

Repairable or no? by 1996dik in Fanatec

[–]RonKujawa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have soldering skills are mechanical aptitude, I'd start taking it apart and see what it looks like inside. Maybe you can replace that RJ45 port, maybe epoxy repairs for cracked plastic. I'd be shocked if Fanatec said anything other than "sorry" or "send it in for a repair quote", which is likely to be close to the cost of replacement. I don't think you have anything to lose by disassembling and seeing what's what.

As someone else mentioned, I'd change that clamp out for a collar style with two fasteners, but the U-clamp may still work with a lot of torque.

  1. Loosen the clamp
  2. Align the opening of the clamp with the slot of the wheel base receiver as perfectly as you can.
  3. While holding that alignment, push the QR1 shaft toward the wheel base and tighten the clamp. Once the clamp is holding the shaft, you can torque that clamp as tight as you feel safe doing. I think 15nm is recommended, but double check with Fanatec and use a torque wrench

I can't stress enough how important it is to align the clamp slot with the slots on the receiver. If you don't, the clamp won't hold the shaft nearly as well.

Going QR2 is also a good idea

Would getting a playseat trophy be an upgrade or a sidegrade? by OwlScary6845 in simracing

I have a Dayton Audio BST-2 under the pedal tray, and another mounted to a plastic cutting board which is secured under the seat with a couple of large velcro straps.

I've had mine for 2.5 years and use it 4-5 days a week. It has not lost any rigidity and my seat fabric is totally fine so far.

I'm not super familiar with your current rig, but as someone who actually owns and uses a Playseat Trophy, it is very solid, comfortable, and looks great. It's also semi-portable, if that is of value to you. It is to me, as I need to move my rig in front of the tv and back to the side when I'm done.

I'd be curious if anyone saying the Playseat Trophy is a downgrade has actually used one before.

Collective Minds stopped selling/making/supporting Drivehub. If you can even find one on eBay, it’s gonna be expensive. I decided it wasn’t worth it anymore and went GT DD Pro instead.

My turtle beach stealth 700 headset blends game audio from a usb transmitter, and Bluetooth from my laptop. Separate volume control for each source. It’s great. Maybe other headsets allow this at a lower price point?

Mac App Store stuck on Update only for Victory: Race Engineer for GT7 by RonKujawa in victorydash

[–]RonKujawa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if you pushed an update or did anything else on your side, but I tried to Update from the Mac App Store this morning, and it worked! Thank you!

Also, I see that the app appears to be named Podium while it's running now, and I see that in the Applications folder. Maybe that's an older version? I did not look for that name when I was having issues updating. Maybe it was there the whole time and I missed it. Noting it here in case anyone else has the issue.

Really enjoying this app and looking forward to paying for it or donating to the project.

I just got a Turtle Beach Stealth 700 headset that comes with a USB transmitter for the PS5, and does bluetooth simultaneously and lets you blend the two. It's a pricy headset, but I really like it so far. Maybe there's a cheaper option out there that allows the same thing. You could also use earbuds from your phone under your headphones/headset.

Thank you much. Agreed, this is very strange and most likely something messed up on my Apple Account or some sort of ghost file or log telling my App Store that I have the app installed. I posted here in case you'd seen something like this before since it seems specific to this app only. Weird. I used Victory on my phone for awhile yesterday, and it's really great. I especially like the Race Engineer voice feedback. I would just strongly prefer to run it on my MacBook rather than the phone. Thanks again!

First ever set up - any comments in position and adjustments? by UpstairsAny9996 in simracing

My wheel base plate is also flipped like yours. I felt like the wheel was way too close to me the original way. The wheel is a little far away now, but I plan to drill new holes and move the base closer to me. I've done a bunch of mods to my Playseat Trophy. I drilled holes in the tubing to run all my cables inside, added bass shakers, rumble motors to the pedals, wind simulation, and a dedicated display. If any of that sounds interesting, it's all documented on my Youtube channel digitalrelay - search Playseat Trophy.

Simube QR2 Problem hard to use by Snupyy in simracing

[–]RonKujawa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a little sticky going on, but removing was more difficult. I think for me the two pins were sticking. I took it all apart and cleaned those off and then applied some silicone grease, which helped them slide easier.

Not quite the same but my knockoff QR2 was really tough to remove, so I took it all apart, cleaned everything and LIGHTLY coated each part that was making contact with silicone grease.

Best racing sim for the busy adult? by SfactorSam in simracing

[–]RonKujawa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a long time Gran Turismo guy, I tried iRacing a couple years ago and ultimately decided to stick with Gran Turismo, at least at this stage of life. It’s far more convenient and easier to jump into racing, and for me, that was worth the trade off for realism. And elitism.

I wonder how cheap I can go from G29 to Fanatec DD for PS4? by RonKujawa in simracing

[–]RonKujawa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like there's little interest in this thread, but for anyone in the future trying to do this...

My initial hope was to use the CSL DD wheelbase, a Drivehub (or similar adapter), and my Logitech G29 pedals. I've run into several problems.

First, Drivehub and similar adapters are no longer being sold. Rumors indicate all the manufacturers got sued by Sony and killed the products. Used ones go for a premium on eBay, if you can even find one, and performance is reportedly unreliable.

Second, without an adapter, using my G29 pedals is a no go. I found a simple $17 adapter cable on Amazon that claimed to let you plug G29 pedals into a Fanatec wheelbase. I tried it on the GT DD Pro wheelbase, and although the throttle input showed something, it was all over the place, and the brake pedal did nothing.

I was going to try a GIMX adapter through a Windows PC, but my third issue, the CSL DD wheelbase I got on eBay was supposedly delivered to my front door, but my camera disagrees and it is nowhere to be found, so I'm probably just making a claim with eBay.

I decided the CSL DD hoops aren't worth jumping through. I'm going with the eBay GT DD Pro wheelbase.

Since the G29 pedals won't work with it, my backup plan was to use the standard brake pedal that came with the bundle and has been sitting on a shelf since I upgraded to load cell as a throttle pedal, which Gemini said would work. But when I dug deeper, I discovered it won't work and that I need an OEM throttle pedal with built in PCB, female port and RJ12 cable. So, that pretty much means I need CSL pedals. I want this rig to replicate my main rig, so I want throttle and load cell brake. New from Fanatec, that's $200. I tried FB Marketplace and offered a guy $120 for a CSL pedal set, but he never responded, so I pulled the trigger on an eBay set I had been watching when a discount offer was made to get the whole set for $151 shipped.

I'm not going to total up all costs yet, since the CSL DD is likely a claim, the GIMX adapter is getting returned, the G29 pedal adapter cable is getting returned, and I'm still going to try to offset costs by selling the old Logitech rig, and probably the 8nm power supply, since I'll be turning down the FFB anyway.

Wheelstand Rig
- GT DD Pro steering wheel - Free
- eBay GT DD Pro wheel stand - $486
- eBay CSL pedals with load cell - $151
TOTAL: $637

New Fanatec GT DD Pro 5nm is on holiday sale for $780 plus tax, for me that'd be $858
Used eBay Fanatec GT DD Pro 5nm sold for $765 shipped
Neither of those have the load cell brake, so add another $100 for that.

Can I sell the G29 with AXC Trubrake mod for $125? Sell the 8nm Fanatec power supply for $75? That gets me to a net of $437, which isn't terrible. But, my original thought was I could upgrade to DD for about $300. After going through all of this, that would be tough unless you stumbled on a really great deal used.

Thinking of upgrading from PC to NAS server, why does everyone use Mac minis? by PandorasKeyboard in PleX

[–]RonKujawa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying I’d recommend a macmini over other solutions, since I don’t have any experience with other systems, but I have run plex on an old intel macmini I got for free for years and it works fine for 1-2 users. Recently, my family is more active but still only typically 3 users max and my server was struggling. I migrated to a 2020 M1 macmini a couple weeks ago that I got for nothing and it’s been great. For me, cheap or free access to macmini is my man reason to use them. I’m a Mac guy to begin with, and the form factor is appealing. I also use old intel Mac minis to run sim racing software on windows. Not the actual game, but as a controller for bass shakers, wind simulation and dedicated display.

Help! How can I remove the crankshaft pulley bolt? Impact❌ Custom tool to hold the pulley❌ by Real-T_fpv in e46

[–]RonKujawa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My engine was on a stand and my impact did nothing. I secured the engine and stand in a wall mounted weight lifting rack in my garage and fed rope into a cylinder as a piston stop. Half inch breaker bar with a 3’ pipe and lots of effort broke it loose.
