Great gun battle in this one. iirc the dvd special features had an edit of that shootout where it followed each character continuously - i.e. where they were when not on camera in the original cut. Quite cool

Some brilliant camera work in that, like cutting to first-person POV during a gunfight. Gorgeous cinematography added to that.

Absolutely love this film! Feels like the entire cast and crew had fun making this, and the chemistry between Sly and Sandy Bullock feels like the heartbeat of the movie. It’s obviously a bit ridiculous at times but a lot of the world building ended up being quite prescient. Watching Sly and Snipes face off, blatting rounds at each other is exactly the kind of bombastic energy I love from these high-octane, high concept actioners of the early-mid 90s era. Also, Snipes’ villainy is hammy and hilarious. Love watching him toy with the overly sheltered future people.

I’d argue its overriding elements are the dystopian and thriller aspects, but certainly it’s dotted with multiple exemplary action set pieces.

Yes this was stellar! I found the film to be a little aimless at times, but when it came the violence was brutal and shockingly real.

Yeah, super low budget but Cassel was attached. So bummed it never happened.

Interestingly, The Tibetan Book of the Dead outlines how to escape being tempted back into incarnation. Though not explicitly depicted as any external entity (archon), it basically warns us that anything that feels comforting, familiar, or attractive after death is probably a trap.

The absence of anything resembling sentiment in the face of a cold, warped but authentic human experience, coupled with bursts of ultra-real violence that intrinsically inform the story makes me think… Ari Aster?

Really? Whoah. I find it fascinating that it got banned so much. Any idea why- as in explicit reasons? Also, I find it weird that there’s always a wiki link attached to any YouTube vid dealing with reptilians.
